Summary:

Serves as the lead technician for all P-BVUSD sites; provides first level support to users concerning hardware, software, and networking problems. Escalates system problems to second level technical support staff as necessary.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Works under the general supervision of the Information Security and Technology Manager.

Serves as the lead technician for all P-BVUSD sites; provides first level support to users concerning hardware, software, and networking problems. Escalates system problems to second level technical support staff as necessary.

Performs all functions required to install, configure, and test computer software, apps, or upgrades on P-BVUSD owned information systems; including personal computers, tablets, virtual desktop clients, and connections to the network.

Communicates with students, staff, and other support personnel to identify and resolve problems and provides technical advice to technology users.

Assists with network support issues such as account creation, installation, and maintenance of network printers, management of disk space, etc.

Responds to trouble calls on equipment or applications, diagnoses problems, and provides local or remote testing and support.

Leads computer technicians in project-oriented work and directs issues as they arise.

Assists with server installations and setups.

Assists with network management in development implementations of wiring configuration standards, connectivity solutions, overall network operations systems, network software, server hardware configurations, network file systems, and directory structure. Assists in ensuring LAN/WAN system integrity and security. Also assists the IST Manager with installation and configuration of network hardware and software.

Understands principles of data communications including Ethernet, WiFi, VPN setup and installation and problem determination/resolution.

Assists in evaluating end user needs and recommends appropriate equipment and software configurations.

Coordinates efforts of district computer/network technicians to ensure district technology systems are repaired and maintained efficiently.

Schedule and prioritize emergency, urgent, and routine repair work and preventative maintenance.

Assists with maintaining and updating District-wide computer and parts inventory.

Understands low voltage cabling infrastructure.

Good understanding of enterprise networking and how it relates to computer connectivity and functions.

Understands how classroom technology should properly function, and best practices in maintaining those functions.

Configure, troubleshoot, and monitor the functioning of personal computers and server systems, undertake preemptive maintenance on telecommunications equipment, escalate issues which are unresolved, aid other teams in supporting different operating systems, and respond to phone calls, messages, and emails relating to system issues or hardware problems.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and Skills:

  • High school education or equivalent. Must have an intimate knowledge of desktop and laptop computer technologies and software systems, applications, data communications networks and concepts. Must have an intimate knowledge of LAN design and engineering, including topology, routing protocols, including, but not limited to, TCP/IP, RIP and IP forwarding, as well as diagnostic methods and utilities for troubleshooting problems related to District LANs. Must have an intimate knowledge of Microsoft desktop operating systems and the deployment in an enterprise network, including, but not limited to Windows 10. Must have solid understanding of modern Microsoft Server operating systems, including, but limited to Windows Server 2016 and 2019. Must have a solid understanding of Microsoft Active Directory, including GPO management.

  • Abilities:

  • Work effectively without immediate supervision.

  • Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Communicate in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED.

  • Three years' experience installing and troubleshooting desktop and laptop hardware, software, and related peripheral equipment, and two years of troubleshooting, configuring and installing network switches and related hardware.

Licenses and Certificates:

  • May require a valid driver's license.

Additional Requirement:

  • Must pass an approved pre-placement medical assessment.

Salary and Terms of Service:

Salary range (1) $28.53 - $34.58 per hour, eight (8) steps, eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week (M-F), 12 months per year. Holidays, sick leave and vacation benefits. Prepaid family dental, medical, and vision insurance, prepaid life insurance plan for employee only.
