Project Manager 1

Summary:

The Idaho State Police IT Department in Meridian is looking for a Project Manager 1 to oversee and manage IT projects integral to our public safety and law enforcement missions. This role involves the comprehensive planning, implementation, and management of various IT projects.

As a Project Manager 1, you'll be instrumental in defining project scopes, goals, work plans, timelines, and implementation strategies, ensuring the successful execution of these projects in alignment with the strategic objectives of the Idaho State Police. Your expertise will be crucial in navigating the complexities of IT project management, delivering solutions that enhance our technological capabilities and operational efficiency.

Examples of Duties

  • Lead the planning and execution of IT projects, aligning them with the department's strategic goals and operational needs.

  • Implement and oversee project management frameworks and methodologies, focusing on the enhancement of IT services and infrastructure.

  • Facilitate the development and implementation of standards and best practices for IT project management, including data management, system integration, and software development.

  • Define roles and responsibilities within IT projects, ensuring clear accountability and effective resource allocation.

  • Collaborate with departmental leaders and stakeholders to ensure IT projects align with overall organizational objectives and priorities.

  • Participate in relevant workshops, seminars, and training sessions to stay updated on industry trends and advancements in IT project management.

  • Assist in the development of guidelines and strategies for effective use of IT tools and platforms, such as data visualization and reporting tools.

  • Coordinate with external vendors, partners, and consultants as needed to ensure successful project outcomes.

  • Monitor and report on the progress of IT projects, including tracking key performance indicators and project milestones.

  • Manage project risks and issues, implementing mitigation strategies to address potential challenges and ensure project success.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

  • Planning and implementing projects including coordinating the development of project scope, goals, work plans, timelines, implementation strategies, and measurement processes/methods for assessing progress toward goals and project outcomes. Typically gained by at least one year of professional experience planning and implementing projects including coordinating the development of project scope, goals, work plans, timeliness, implementation strategies and measurement processes/methods for assessing progress toward goals and project outcomes.

  • Interpreting and explaining specialized or complex material into information usable by the public. Typically gained by at least one year of professional experience involving the interpretation of specialized or complex information such as laws, policies, procedures, rules, etc., where the information was analyzed and communicated into information that was usable by the public or the project team in various formats (oral, written, graphic, web based, etc.

  • Developing and monitoring contracts. Typically gained by at least one year of professional experience developing contract conditions and monitoring them for compliance. This would involve working with people to develop contracts that spelled out specific goals and objectives and evaluating activities for compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Professional certification in project management, such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management).

  • Demonstrated experience in managing IT projects, including familiarity with software development lifecycles, infrastructure deployments, and data management initiatives.

  • Proficiency in project management software tools, such as Microsoft Project, JIRA, or similar platforms.

  • Strong understanding of IT systems, network infrastructure, and software applications.

  • Experience in developing and implementing IT strategies and processes.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage stakeholder relationships.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on innovative solutions to complex IT challenges.

  • Knowledge of industry best practices in IT governance, risk management, and compliance (GRC).

  • Experience with budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation in IT project contexts.
