Provides day to day administration of databases, which includes monitoring and tuning, SQL optimization, resolving SQL errors and failures, auditing activities, and resource utilization.
Work with application development teams to migrate older dynamic SQL from Java/C++ applications into functions and stored procedures calls.
Reviewing and debugging complex SQL and understanding the best ways to incorporate database requests into application programs
Work with the infrastructure team for backup/recovery issues, capacity planning and enforcing mechanisms for securing data from inappropriate access or data loss.
Provide technical assistance to the information management team, as appropriate. Solve issues, research technologies, and help develop strategies to improve information management processes.

Bachelors degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or 5 years relevant work experience.

Job Requirements

Prior experience on the IBM i (formerly known AS/400 and iSeries) DB2 platform highly desirable.
Knowledgeable of database design concepts as it relates to DB2 database optimization and tuning.
Strong SQL development skills; capable of developing complex SQL scripts, functions and stored procedures.
Possess good understanding of the Java/C++ programming languages.

Position summary: As a Consulting Business Intelligence Innovation Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the company's BI Intelligence innovation efforts through continuous exploration, use, and socialization of new and existing BI capabilities. Due to the fast-evolving nature of BI technology and practice, the position demands a combination of creative technical skill and superior interpersonal consulting skills of: listening, teaching, and influencing. You will have the ability to translate business needs into the development of analytical work products using any of a number of market-leading Business Intelligence related software packages. You will be able to demonstrate: * Proficiency with relational, in-memory, and multi-dimensional databases. * Familiarity with emerging Interactive Visualization, Predictive Analytics, and Search-Based Data Discovery technologies. * An innate curiosity and ability to learn new technologies and business processes. * Team oriented working style, particularly in a matrixed environment, and with little supervision. * A self-starters mentality and the ability to bring clarity to complex situations. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to develop strong organizational relationships. * Leading BI transformation in a way that has resulted in demonstrable business impact. You will sit at the intersection between IT and the company's key business functions, including Clinical, HR, Finance, Operations, etc. As a Consulting BI Innovation Engineer you will have the ability to exercise a quick understanding of key business processes and function, and then to subsequently guide the selection and application of Business Intelligence technology and methods to achieve improvements in patient experience and operational efficiency. You will synthesize data, and communicate in a clear and concise manner. Building rapport within HCA's growing community of BI Developers and Data Scientists will be critical to development within in this role, as is working 'across the business' to foster inter-departmental communication, collaboration, and sharing. Additional duties include: * Work with Business and IT PE leaders within the company to understand BI reporting/analytics needs and use cases and to ensure that enabling technology, infrastructure, staff, and processes are put into effective practice. * Maintain deep working knowledge of the BI marketplace, leading toolsets, and competitive differentiators. Stay abreast of companywide efforts to deliver BI business impact, and provide leadership on lessons learned and best practices throughout the business. * Provide architectural perspective for the PE Team, providing guidance, review and recommendations to build a reporting and analysis infrastructure to meet PE Analytics team's growing needs. * Participate in BI development efforts and lead the execution of prototypes, pilots, and proofs-of-concept key to the maturation of the company's BI capabilities. * Support relationship development with new 3rd-party software and service vendors in the BI market, with the goal to ensuring that HCA is deriving cost-effective benefit from these relationships. * Participate in the ongoing evolution of BI practice that features: * Shared infrastructure, data, tools, and processes. * Collaboration with larger PE Team, IT peers and support, as well as PE leaders in the larger organization. * Clear delineation of how new technology fits within the existing universe of functionality. * A 'DevOps' style of introducing and managing change, in which speed-to-market, quality, and degree of automation are primary attributes. Required job skills: * Strong interpersonal skills, including a desire to work within a highly-matrixed, team-oriented environment. * Experience in application and report design using a variety of tools and techniques. * Experience in how to interject information delivery via reports and analytical applications into standard business process workflows – ensuring that information is both actionable and becomes part of the job. * Practical experience in lean/agile development using short-cycle iterations to deliver business value. * Knowledge of all facets of Business Intelligence development including requirements definition, design, implementation, and operational support. * Knowledge of various audit and control models with experience proving the validity of analytical work products and building trust and confidence through ensuring that data and the presentation of the data is accurate, consistent, and auditable. * Demonstrated performance monitoring and tuning ability, including an aptitude to lead the diagnosis and resolution of performance and latency problems within a large-scale, complex infrastructure. * Ability to define and utilize best practice techniques. Educational requirements & technical experience: * Requires a Bachelor's degree but a Master's degree is preferred. * Requires more than 3 years relevant previous work experience, 2 of which must involve BI development experience. * Significant BI Application experience with at least one of the following: Tableau (preferred), Qlikview, MicroStrategy. PowerBI, Looker, Sisense. * Familiarity with the HCA Teradata EDW subject areas; depth of familiarity is desired in at least two of these subject areas. * Interest and experience using open source data analysis programming languages such as Python and/or R. * Programming skills using SQL is required. * Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP) certification is considered a plus. Experience with the following IT components is highly preferred: Hardware/Operating Systems: * Client: Various desktop operating systems, primarily Microsoft & Apple * Server: LINUX, AIX, Microsoft Server * Mobile: Apple, Android Networking: (ex: LAN/WAN, DHCP, VPN, TCP/IP) * Basic understanding of networking w/ respect to database and software product connectivity and troubleshooting of connectivity errors.
