Under the general direction of an IS manager, the Network Security Engineer assists in developing and maintaining an integrated program to protect the integrity, confidentiality and availability of all information resources of the health system. Works to support the enterprise security applications and systems as well as the enterprise firewall and intrusion detection / prevention systems.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting all related IT security systems and components, works to participate in investigations into problematic activity and interprets implications of the activity for appropriate resolutions, works collaboratively to design and execute vulnerability assessments, penetration tests and security audits. Reviews logs and reports of all in place devices to ensure the effectiveness of security solutions. Provides routine systems analysis and security audits.

Assists in developing information protection procedures and guideline to support the information security program. Effectively plans and manages assigned activities to ensure that objectives and schedules are met. Provides on call technical support as necessary. Maintains knowledge of IT security related initiatives and best practices.

Experience, Education and Training Minimum: Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility (including theories, principles, and concepts) normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Networking, Computer Science, MIS or closely related discipline, with 2-3 years work experience.

Must possess an information security related certification. CISSP or GIAC preferred. Will consider CISCO or Microsoft certifications.

Demonstrated experience in implementing IDS, Host Side Intrusion Detection, Firewall configuration, email encryption and PHI filtering as well as Anti-Spam / Virus and content filtering necessary. Cisco security appliances, and other security technologies, to include Firewalls, IDS and IPS. Linux experience a plus.

Experience with configuring, troubleshooting, and network monitoring. Knowledge of HIPAA and HITECH information security directives a plus.

Excellent written and oral communication, and analytical skills necessary to resolve problems. Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license and be able to meet the insurance requirements of the hospital.

VIEW JOBS 11/11/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-09T00:00 Job Description Responsibilities/Qualification SUMMARY: The Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) Information Security Engineer is responsible for ensuring cybersecurity compliance by analyzing and testing systems, applications and networks, while providing diagrams and technical artifacts used within Certification and Accreditation (C&A) packages. The Information Security Engineer will be a member of engineering integrated product teams (IPTs) and will be responsible for addressing the projects security requirements for extensive network engineering projects. The engineer will identify and address security requirements at each phase of the projects lifecycle. Pre-procurement tasks focus on selecting hardware, software and system features that DoD standards. Pre installation and system maintenance tasks will include system hardening, measuring compliance to DOD STIG standards and drafting mitigation statements. The security engineer will be responsible for all technical input required in NCTE C&A packages, including network topologies, system descriptions and test results. The engineer will also be responsible for developing technical cybersecurity solutions in the areas of endpoint hardening, asset monitoring, and access control and network defense. The engineer's deliverables will meet the standards of the NCTE Information Assurance Managers expectations. The Engineer will observe the documentation and practices of various engineering disciplines to develop a skillset that can be used to create engineering Deliverables for A&A packages. The engineer will create and update A&A Engineering deliverables with moderate direction from senior engineers. The engineer will assist in creating concept of operations (CONOPS), disaster recovery plans (DRP) and business continuity plans. The engineer will provide assistance updating and maintaining information on: accreditation boundary diagrams, hardware and software assets, ports protocols and services and cross domain solutions. The engineer will perform assessment of 8500.2/800-53 r4 Information Assurance Controls and POA&M's indicating when open items will be addressed. The Engineer will remain up to date on the latest DISA STIGS (Security and Technical Implementation Guides), HBSS and ACAS practices. The engineer's deliverables will meet the standards of the NCTE Information Assurance Managers and Sr. Engineers expectations. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and 5+ year's demonstrated experience in Cybersecurity Engineering or IT or 10+ years demonstrated experience in Cybersecurity Engineering or IT. In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for equivalent combination of applicable education and work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.
