GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Patient-Reported Outcomes, Value & Experience (PROVE) Center seeks to leverage leading-edge techniques to transform the collection, analysis and feedback of patient-reported data at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Partners Healthcare and around the world.

Our strategic focus is based on four interwoven themes:

  • Develop new measurement tools and techniques.

  • Transform patient-reported data into actionable insights.

  • Integrate innovative new systems to simplify data collection.

  • Demonstrate the value of PROMs for clinical practice, outcomes research, benchmarking and quality improvement.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help shape the direction of front-end architecture at the PROVE Center

  • Collaborate with engineers across the enterprise on best practices through code reviews, pair programming, and other feedback mechanisms

  • Enable teams to work faster and better by partnering on difficult problems

  • Identify and proactively solve problems that will improve and streamline the code base

  • Develop scalable tools and applications with RESTful API integration

  • Write code in R, Javascript, HTML5/CSS3 and other languages as necessary

  • Develop RESTful APIs to communicate with electronic health records (e.g., JSON, FHIR)

  • Responsible for enhancing and maintaining the current PROVE Center application(s) and working on the next generation

  • Work closely with the PROVE Center Co-Directors, brainstorm ideas and incorporate feedback from a variety of stakeholder groups and the broader community of local developers and open source community at large

  • Fix bugs and solve problems, write documentation and automated tests

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • 3 years front-end development experience evidenced by a portfolio

  • Expert knowledge of modern JS (ES2015 ) and its ecosystem

  • Experience with front-end frameworks such as React, Vue, etc.

Desired:

  • Experience working with front-end build toolchains, including tools such as Webpack and Babel

  • Back-end experience, especially R and/or Python

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines

  • Experience with universal/server-rendered or "serverless" front-ends

  • Knowledge of front-end performance challenges and tradeoffs and experience profiling

  • Experience with CSS as well as dialects such as SASS and LESS

  • Contributor to or consumer of Open Source Frameworks

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong collaboration skills

  • Experience working in an agile development environment

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a professional office setting. The Front-End Developer has designated cubicle space. May require travel to other parts of the Hospital campus and offsite locations. Workload may necessitate working evenings or weekend to complete critical projects for deadlines.

VIEW JOBS 12/7/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-07T00:00 GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: We are developing novel biomaterials for drug delivery systems that respond to stimuli in the microenvironment of the gastrointestinal tract for biomedical applications. Specifically, we focus on engineering polymeric drug delivery systems for controlled release of therapeutics for disease treatment. Targeting drugs to the site of action may minimize toxicity as well as improve treatment outcomes. The project involves materials characterization, rheological evaluation, drug release testing, microscopic imaging and evaluations in animal models. The work will be performed at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School and is part of a larger collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Synthesis and purification of polymers * Materials characterization and evaluation in cell culture * Manufacturing and production of novel drug delivery technology * Design and execution of experiments in vitro and in vivo in small and large animal species * High School graduate with college credits required. * College undergraduate required. Prefer individuals with science or patient care background and interest in scientific research. SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: * Highly motivated, responsible, and creative * Ability to work independently and strong attention to detail * A strong background in general chemistry, general biology, and related engineering disciplines * Ability to follow and execute instructions * Having experience and skills in chemical synthesis, microscopic imaging, or cell culture is a plus. WORKING CONDITIONS: Collaborative Environment: About the Langer and Traverso labs The Langer and Traverso labs are research labs at MIT and BWH/Harvard Medical School focused on developing new technologies at the interface of biotechnology and materials science. A major emphasis of the lab is the study and development of polymers to deliver drugs continuously at controlled rates for prolonged periods of time. Will primarily work in the Traverso laboratory in BWH Division of Gastroenterology, which is located at the 221 Longwood Ave, Boston. When needed, will access instruments located at MIT.
