MISSION:
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position supports the missions and operations of the Orange County Boy Scouts of America and the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center. The Program Lead is primarily responsible for the day-to-day camp programs. The Program Lead should have a background in youth camp operations and the Boy Scouts of America. This position is currently part-time and seasonal, but the right candidate may have the opportunity to become full-time.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum age requirement is 21
College degree (required)
Have or be able to attend and complete Boy Scouts of America's National Camping School for Camp Director and/or Program Director
Maintain certification in Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED by an EMSA provider
Maintain certification in CA's Preventative Health and Safety course
People and inventory management experience
Communication skills
Two (2) seasons of camp experience (preferred)
Be able to work evenings and some weekends when needed.
JOB DUTIES
Oversee day-to-day operations while guests are on site.
Oversee academic field trips/overnight programs/camp programs.
Maintain relationships with teachers, leaders, groups, and schools on-site.
Interact with and comfort youth at camp, including those who may be struggling with missing home or other issues.
Support youth with special needs and abilities.
Be able to have respectful conversations with parents/guardians regarding first aid, medications, and/or youth discipline.
Be able to maintain and work with volunteer groups.
Be able to communicate program goals and objectives to the public and guests.
Work with Area Directors to keep track of program equipment and materials and notify a Program Director promptly when orders are needed.
Instill a culture that attracts and motivates a diverse staff of top qualified counselors.
Oversee employee training that meets California Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, American Camp Association Accreditation Standards, and BSA National Camp Standards.
Provide quality service through timely communication, regular meetings, training events, and activities.
Participates in IROEC (Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center) and OCBSA staff meetings, training, and enhancement activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL SKILLSETS
Basic computer literacy, including limited usage of Microsoft Office Products and electronic record systems.
Ability to communicate clearly, positively, and professionally with others.
The ability to operate and in a leadership role.
Ability to think critically and prioritize when given multiple assigned tasks.
Fluency in written and spoken English.
Bi-lingual (preferred)

Working in a camp environment includes providing customer service, solving problems, and cooperation with others, regardless of your title. It also requires a desire to develop and work with youth, which can occasionally lead to challenging interactions.
