Performs as the lead technologist in the assigned imaging sections by monitoring day to day operations including staff scheduling, daily assignments, training and equipment usage. Provides leadership, imaging expertise, support and education to the staff technologists to assure optimum performance of imaging procedures and protocols. Coordinates the technologists to optimize patient care in addition to participating in all procedures and activities, and interact closely with physicians and other health care providers to meet the demands associated with patient care in Interventional Radiology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

For West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland locations:

1.Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiography.

2.Radiologist Technologist through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners, or applicable state where services will be performed.

3.Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire

4.Certification in Vascular-Interventional Radiology (VI).

EXPERIENCE:

1.Two (2) years of experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist.

For Pennsylvania locations:

1.Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiography.

2.Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire

3.Certification in Vascular-Interventional Radiology (VI).

EXPERIENCE:

1.Two (2) years of experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:

1.ACLS certified.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.

1.Oversees daily work flow and problem solving in designated specialized modality. Coordinates procedures based on assessment of the status of the patient, request of the service, and imaging protocols.

2.Maintains the expertise in their designated modality and provides orientation to new staff members.

3.Supports staff by promoting cooperative problem solving and team building by displaying a professional attitude and demeanor.

4.Promotes and contributes positively to intradepartmental and interdepartmental relationships. Promotes the team approach to providing Interventional Radiology services by positively interacting with the technical, support, nursing, and medical staff.

5.Displays imaging techniques, patient care, and guest relation behaviors in accordance with the ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH Administrative Policies and Procedures, Radiology Department Policies and Procedures, State and Federal Regulation, and The Joint Commission guidelines.

6.In conjunction with Radiologists, APPs, and residents, functions as a liaison with other departments to coordinate services.

7.Coordinates preventative maintenance call, repairs, and equipment upgrades as necessary always advising medical staff of any equipment problems in advance as to not interfere with patient care.

8.Monitors inventory of medical supplies to ensure no interruption of patient care.

9.Provides direct feedback to Supervisor/Manager regarding technologist performance.



  1. Supports development of protocols with Supervisor / Manager / Radiologists.

  2. Maintains confidentiality of all Protected Health Information.

  3. Engages in problem solving, crisis management, systems implementation, and performance improvements throughout the hospital to promote and support efficient, high quality, and cost effective patient care.

  4. Completes all in-services and competencies by the required date and applies knowledge gained.

  5. Provides clinical supervision and instruction within the policies of the Radiology program and its respective accrediting bodies.

  6. Ensures that all vital components of the imaging process are completed in their entirety.

1.Differentiate various shades of gray and color as depicted on a monitor or photograph.

2.Stand, sit and walk for prolonged periods.

3.Lift, push and pull a minimum of 40 pounds of weight.

4.Carry items of up to 20 pounds.

5.Wear a lead apron weighing approximately 8 to 15 pounds for extended periods of time.

6.Hearing (aid permitted) - must be able to function without use of lip reading.

7.Visual acuity (corrected) - keen for both distant and near objects/individuals (i.e. ability to read small print).

1.Exposure to minimal radiation within the national standards of occupational guidelines. Monitored by Radiation Safety and use of dosimeter.

5.Work environment is clinical by nature.
