The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for routine maintenance of the laboratory environment, processing and disposal of sample retains, and performing basic test procedures.   The Laboratory Assistant reports to the Iowa Central Fuel Testing Laboratory Supervisor.

Constant (67-100%)

  • Provide quality customer service to clients, suppliers, College staff and the public.

  • Assure daily that soiled glassware is collected and washed.

  • Assure daily that the Laboratory is maintained in a clean and orderly fashion.

  • Process and dispose of sample retains in a timely manner.

  • Monitor inventory of general laboratory reagents and supplies.

  • Perform routine basic testing of fuel samples as directed.

  • Perform duties in a manner that is compliant with the BQ-9000 and ISO-9001 quality programs.

Frequent (34-66%)

  • Perform routine instrument maintenance and simple repairs.

  • Assist in maintaining instrument log books including sample sheets, calibration documents, and other laboratory documentation.

Occasional (10-33%

  • Employ revised or new methods in compliance with BQ-9000 or ISO-9001 certification standards.

  • Participate in BQ-9000 and ISO-9001 internal and external audits as required.

  • Participate in management review meetings and other Laboratory meetings.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.)

High school diploma and two years of laboratory experience required.

GENERAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH OR WITHOUT A REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves constant (67-100%) close visual work, lifting, standing, kneeling, grasping, reaching, walking, and stooping, general upkeep of the facilities such as cleaning, vacuuming, and emptying trash and recyclables; frequent (34-66%) lifting (supply boxes up to 70 pounds), boxing and unboxing supply cartons; occasional (10-33%) occasional travel time.
