What it's about

This position is an opportunity to join the Private Infrastructure Direct Investment Team and take part in all aspects of control and control-oriented Infrastructure investments. The team targets investments in across Infrastructure sub-sectors including Energy, Communications, Transportation, Utilities and Infrastructure Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform due diligence on prospective investments, including: financial modeling, industry research, commercial & operational analysis, and transaction structuring

  • Write deal team investment recommendations for presentation to investment committee

  • Work with deal captains to develop investment theses

  • Interface with external service providers, management teams, lenders and/or financial sponsor partners

  • Perform various tasks related to investment monitoring, product reporting, market research and marketing efforts

What we expect

  • Top academic credentials (Master's/MBA/CFA a plus) with a coursework emphasis on Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics and/or Engineering

  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience, preferably with a background in principal investing and/or investment banking

  • Strong valuation and financial modeling skills required

  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, written, communication and presentation skills

  • Strong work ethic with a desire to learn and succeed

  • Effective and reliable team playe

Our four major business lines include Corporate & Investment Banking, Commercial Banking, Commercial Real Estate, and Wells Fargo Commercial Capital. We also have groups in credit risk, group risk, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office that support our businesses. The Strategic Investing Partnership Division is responsible for providing thought leadership to both internal and external clients as well as vendors helping drive change in reaction to external landscape developments and regulatory reform. As a part of this practice, the team is responsible for investing in fast growing, promising private companies that align strategically and/or have a commercial engagement with Wells Fargo. The group leverages equity investments to facilitate early access to disruptive technologies and/or business models, generate direct investment returns, and open new pathways to growth opportunities and operational efficiencies. Some of the group's key investment themes include Capital Markets/Financial Technologies (FinTech), Regulation/Compliance technologies (RegTech), Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, Enterprise Infrastructure, Payments Systems and Blockchain/Distributed Ledger Technologies. The group's strategic goal is to help position Wells Fargo for continued leadership, accelerate the ability to evolve in a dynamic marketplace, and create increased future profitability as well as operating efficiencies across the platform. This Director role will interact regularly with external market participants and various internal constituents. The person will be expected to source strategic private equity type transactions, drive the execution of ideas/deals, lead negotiations relative to the strategic investments where appropriate and understand market structure. Additionally, the Director of Strategic Investments will need to identify opportunities to enhance and improve platform wide processes and procedures. Responsibilities * Independently source deal flow * Present business cases and recommendations to desk heads and senior executives * Collaborate with corporate development team to conduct due diligence on potential opportunities * Assist in developing financial models and valuations for all opportunities * Work with the core team to structure, negotiate and execute investment agreements * Assist in managing the portfolio of strategic investments * Conduct market sizing and competitive analyses for potential investment opportunities Preferred Competencies * Gather and synthesize market intelligence from across a full spectrum of market participants (e.g. clients, competitors, team members, vendors, etc.) formulating a view on market structure trends and changes * Provide market intelligence and insight to line of business senior leadership where appropriate as well as providing high-level perspective to frame issues, business considerations and alternatives for business leader decisions * Advise on strategic alternatives and recommendations facing WFS Markets Division in support of departmental and division initiatives Team members support our focus on building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture which firmly establishes those disciplines as critical to the success of our customers and company.
