As the Investment Accounting Manager, you will manage a team of professionals assigned to record and reconcile investment transactions and balances from both.

Kemper has a broad range of investment types/classes, including fixed income (corporate, tax-advantaged, CLO, MBS, ABS, private placement), equity (publicly traded, private, common, preferred), and alternative investments (mezzanine debt, hedge funds, co-investments).

You will lead efforts to automate various processes by developing a deep understanding of source data and end user needs, and then assisting in the design, implementation, and oversight of solution.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing security valuations, including more simplistic Level 1 and 2 as well as a variety of more complex Level 3 (matrix modeling, enterprise value, waterfall).

  • Participating in periodic management discussions on investment performance and results, including reviewing securities for impairments.

  • Drafting investment-related MD&A and reviewing quarterly and annual disclosures for both 10-K/Q and statutory filings.

  • Creating and performing adhoc queries and analyses.

  • Planning, implementing and testing investment system upgrades and enhancements.

  • Monitoring investment procedures and internal controls, including re engineering processes using best practices.

  • Training and mentoring staff.

  • Serving as a key resource for special projects with the ability to both lead as well as provide meaningful contributions.

Position Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting/Finance. CPA is a strong plus.
  • 5+ years of investment accounting/auditing leadership experience (public and/or

private) required.

  • Experience with SEC reporting and insurance statutory accounting is highly desirable.

  • Experience with eFront, Workday ledgers, Workiva (wDesk), Blackline, Wings, and software robots are a strong plus.

  • Progressive thinking skills, a strong work ethic, and a knack for innovative solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills to interact with varying levels of management and professional staff.

  • Strong attention to detail required.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Ability to identify, analyze and solve accounting and operational issues.

  • Intellectually curious, analytically strong, and embracer of change.

One of the key functional departments within the Delegated/OCIO part of the Investments business, is Global Investment Operations (GI Ops). GI-Ops is responsible for many billions of fund and cash transactions each year, hence has within it the associated infrastructure and teams that allow that work to happen in a risk-controlled manner. What You'll Do Continued business growth in our US business has created an important new role in our Global Investment Operations team with focus on accounting and external service provider oversight activities for the business. The role will appeal to people with a background in fund accounting and administration who are looking for an opportunity to join a successful team, use their experience to broaden their skills and add value to the business as they help build out this new role. Responsibilities: * Oversight of performance of external fund accounting and fund administrators * Assist in management of relationships with external fund administration and custody service providers * Participation in the preparation of annual accounts (financial statements) for the WTW Group Trust - oversight of fund administrators and liaison with auditors * Participation in management of invoicing process, monitor internal service provider workflows * Act as Secretary to the Valuation Committee * Monitor Fund expenses and Total Expense Ratios * Participate in the US client billing process * Assist with new fund launches Requirements * Strong preference for at least 5-7 years' experience in investment Fund Accounting on daily and monthly funds * Experience/understanding of working in Fund Operations / Middle Office role * Working knowledge of a multi-manager, multi-asset management, environment to include subjects such as: Fund accounting principles Trade management, full transaction cycle Cash management Dealing with different teams with a Custodian/Trustee Procedures and controls (risk management).
