As the Investigator-Auditor for the Real Estate Agency (REA), you will conduct complaint investigations of unlicensed and/or illegal real estate, escrow or land development activities, or other alleged violations of the laws governing the agency's programs. The focus of the work is to complete investigative activities, and to perform audits which may include analyzing financial records, reviewing trust accounts, determining financial soundness of escrow licensees, and other related duties.

What We Are Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of full-time accounting and/or financial auditing experience; AND a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field which includes at least 18 semester (27 quarter) hours in accounting.

Note: Two additional years of financial auditing or accounting experience may substitute for the required degree.

Desired Attributes:

  • Demonstrated investigative experience including skill in evaluating complaints, interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, identifying legal issues, applying pertinent laws, rules, standards etc., and interpreting and applying statutes and rules.

  • Accounting & Audit

  • Demonstrated understanding of accounting and auditing principles and practices, including professional standards applicable to the CPA profession (tax or audit emphasis), analysis of financial statements and computer data.
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality of records and sensitive information on behalf of an agency or organization.

  • Communication skills at the professional level (verbally and in writing), with the proven ability to construct and prepare an organized and detailed investigation report.

  • Proven ability to present information clearly, logically, and persuasively according to the needs of the audience, and to the objectives and goals of the agency; Demonstrated skill and experience formally presenting findings to large groups.

  • High attention to detail with exceptional organizational, planning, and analytical skills.

  • This position is eligible for hybrid work but may not be suitable for full-time remote work. In-office work may be required at our Salem office as needed. Terms of hybrid work and the work schedule will be discussed and agreed upon with the successful candidate and hiring manager.

  • Employee is required to obtain and maintain Oregon LEDS certification.

  • 696.232 License status of employee of agency; reissuance upon termination of employment. (1) The license status of a real estate licensee employed by the Real Estate Agency shall be placed on hold at the time that the real estate licensee commences employment with the agency. At the termination of the employment, the license may be returned to the real estate licensee as an active or inactive license. The agency shall activate a license placed on hold without payment of further fee, and the license expires on the date on which it would have expired if the license had not been placed on hold. (2) During the time of employment at the agency, the employee may not conduct professional real estate activity. (3) Except as stated in subsection (1) of this section, the real estate licensee is subject to the provisions of ORS 696.010 to 696.495, 696.600 to 696.785, 696.800 to 696.870 and 696.995. [1975 c.746 §16; 1977 c.649 §35; 1983 c.258 §6; 2001 c.300 §63; 2005 c.116 §7; 2017 c.234 §14].
