This position is responsible for assisting the Surgery Center Materials Manager in the ordering, receiving, stocking, and distribution of all products utilized in the Surgery Center. Working independently and well with others is mandatory. Awareness of just-in-time delivery system and budgetary limits is required.
Demonstrates competency in maintaining a safe, aseptic environment with the OR, PACU, Pre-op area.
Prepares OR for procedures, dusts, positions equipment, assists with opening of sterile supplies when needed.
Assists with room turnover between cases including mopping the floor as needed.
Performs efficiently and effectively during emergency situations.
Understands the functions and use of instruments, supplies and equipment as they relate to the surgical patient.
Understands and follows procedures for aseptic technique, sterilization, operating autoclaves, Steris system 1, gurneys and OR tables.
Comprehends basic anatomy and physiology related to surgical procedures in relationship to room setup and equipment needs.
Participates in the evaluation of supplies/equipment and provides feedback to the Surgery Center Department Manager.
Assists and monitors the maintenance needs of the OR equipment.
Ensure products/supplies are inventoried and ordered in a timely manner through Lawson and Mckesson ordering system
Verifies accuracy on Mckesson bar code scanning system
Maintains continuity of products/supplies at pre-established par levels with minimal overnight or last minute deliveries
Sends instruments out for repairs
Stocks, receives and distributes supplies appropriately and in a timely fashion
Ensures rotation of stock inventory and current expiration dates
Follows the commitment to excellence and treats patients, families, visitors and each other with courtesy, dignity, respect and professionalism
Verifies delivered supplies, matching packing list and/or purchase order
Unloads and breaks down delivery boxes and keeps receiving area clean
Maintains and cleans the storage areas free of empty boxes and clutter
Works with Purchasing department to make sure supplies arrive on time
Call vendors for any special request
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management
Performs additional duties which may include floating to other departments and or locations
Cross trains with other members of the department
Mentors new Inventory Specialists
Prior computerized inventory/materials management software experience such as Lawson and OneSource preferred.
Prior experience with working within department budgets preferred.
Healthcare environment a plus with prior operating room experience preferred.
Ability to read numbers quickly and accurately
Ability to follow established policies and procedures, including HIPAA and safety and security
Strong analytical and quantitative skills
Intermediate computer skills to include keyboarding, mouse movement and data entry skills to enter information into inventory database.
Ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks in order to complete assignments within the time allotted and maintain standard workflow
Ability to work independently and follow through in all areas of responsibility
