An Inventory Specialist works with and reports to the General Manager and is responsible for HUB operation while performing the following duties. Other duties may be assigned.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pull and ship HUB orders on time.

  • If HUB order can't be filled, call servicing store before next HUB run explaining how to reorder.

  • Working with store management team, complete all cycle counts including OUTS.

  • Work with store management team to complete all plan-o-grams.

  • Work with store management team to stock all incoming items.

  • Work with store management team to complete all callbacks.

  • Work with store management team to complete MAXI changes.

  • Comply with all federal, state and local laws.

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.

  • Complete all required training materials, attend all scheduled store meetings.

  • At General Manager's direction, train and develop Team Members to help assure the HUB is operated according to company policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate through General Manager the delivery of product, maintaining inventories, keeping operating records, or preparing daily record of transactions.

  • Help to ensure compliance of established security, customer service and record keeping policies and procedures.

  • Must be competent at oral and written communications and handle basic math computations.

  • Should have prior retail experience, including basic merchandising and inventory management skills.

  • Able to drive forklift, if certified and applicable, and use a hand truck and pallet jack.

  • Should be well mannered, neat in appearance and possess the ability to meet and deal with the public in an unbiased manner.

  • Previous work records should demonstrate stability and performance results.

  • Scheduling factors necessitate that the individual should be able to come to work on short notice, and/or work flexible hours including nights and weekends.

  • Immediately report to General Manager and/or District Manager any violation of company policy or procedure.


  • High school diploma or GED equivalent


  • Almost constant standing or walking.

  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Requires good manual skills (gross and fine finger dexterity).

  • Must be able to reach above shoulder level.

  • Must be capable of squatting, bending and reaching.

  • Must be capable of climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching on an occasional basis.


Inside approximately 95 % of the time; depending upon the time of year, the store is air conditioned or heated accordingly. No particular hazards are involved except exposure to battery acid (eye protection and aprons should be used when handling batteries, although not mandatory). An Inventory Specialist must also adhere to safety precautions when operating a forklift or hand pallet jack.

The Inventory Specialist is responsible for managing and implementing company inventory/instrument policies and procedures for territory and/or area level. This includes managing inventory/instrument investments to ensure high utilization as well as maintaining accurate records of product placements. Good working knowledge of company products, operating systems and procedures is critical. Essential Functions Position Functions (Include no more than 10 functions) % of Position Ensure all product recall activity is performed immediately to ensure compliance to all required. Coordinate with Quality and Regulatory to ensure verify and ensure all compliance procedures are followed. Ensure consignment locations have valid consignment agreements and/or custody cards as required. Perform Field Cycle Counts as required. Coordinate and participate in territory physical inventories ensure all preparation guidelines are performed, conduct counts, and perform required physical inventory reconciliation. Ensure minimal location/account variances and ensure adjustments (positive/negative) meet established company variance percentages and dollar amounts. Perform field location/account visits/reviews to ensure consigned inventory instruments and implants are verified with account and ensure after reviews that instrument sets and implant inventory levels are correct and adjusted accordingly. Reconciliation variances should be addressed with the appropriate sales representative(s) and management. Perform IAP validations semi-annually and ensure all required adjustments are performed to maintain accurate IAP records. Analyze inventory asset levels to maximize utilization and to provide improved sales performance providing recommendations and executing appropriate strategies. Perform Instrument and implant utilization analysis to identify opportunities, inventory efficiencies with sales management and sales force. Ensure compliance of company asset utilization goals and objectives. Partner with the sales management team, sales force and logistics management to ensure excellent sales support. Perform period, quarterly and annual product reporting to provide guidance for set and inventory deployments. Perform analysis/reporting affecting all P&L related territory and/or area operations (i.e. Stock Withdrawal budget, freight analysis, courier usage, etc.). Determine and ensure the least cost method of providing product to customer is performed. This includes MOSC, Courier and freight utilization is being monitored and reviewed each period. Perform OSC system reviews with OSC Specialist to ensure excellent sales product support for surgeries and assess OSC Kit utilization to ensure maximum utilization. Track and report Memphis, West Coast and Regional Loaner usage to assess additional requirements. Additionally, perform same for District/Sales Office to ensure quality utilization assessments are performed. Ensure and maintain compliance to all Smith & Nephew Logistical requirements and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed and in compliance. Utilize the established IS Checklist for daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly required activities and duties. Maintain Operational Audit readiness at all times. Perform sales order maintenance functions working with Order Management Specialist to ensure open orders are cleared and processed. Provide and assist in the training of new logistics personnel and sales representatives. Additionally, provide and assist in the training of new operational and logistics SOP and processes.
