Inventory and Store Spec II

Inventory and Store Specialist II works under the general supervision of the FWS Warehouse Manager located at 12300 Technology Blvd., Austin TX 78727. Inventory and Store Specialist II works with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment; provides administrative support to the Warehouse Manager and assists with warehouse inventory control and records.

Inventory and Store Specialist II is responsible for receiving, sorting, storing, and taking inventory, keeping records, data entry, organizing deliveries, processing, loading orders, and transporting state goods from the warehouse to various buildings. Inventory and Store Specialist II is responsible for operating automated equipment such as forklifts. Inventory and Store Specialist II assists the Warehouse Manager with planning warehouse layout, and other storeroom areas, in accordance with warehouse turnover, volume, weight, and associated aspects of stored state goods.

Maintains all automated equipment and warehouse vehicles. Inventory and Store Specialist II must maintain a safe and clean working environment keeping shelves, pallet area and workstation neat, maintain clean shipping supply area and comply with warehouse procedures, rules and regulations. Inventory and Store Specialist II is responsible for efficiently conducting all duties and responsibilities assigned.

Inventory and Store Specialist II contributes to FWS team, including conference room set-ups, moving staff and employee equipment. Verifies the receipt of inventory or retail merchandise shipments and assist the loading and unloading of stock and merchandise. May verify the work of others. Essential Job Functions:

Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. (10%)

Monitors HHSC visitors login sheet, encouraging all non-warehouse staff/unfamiliar people to sign-in with the necessary information. (5%)

Ensures all HHSC and vendors trucks are loaded and/or unloaded of stock items, supplies, equipment and any other distribution material. (10%)

Assists and conducts physical inventory of property and ensures the accuracy of the packing slip. Approves the documentation, transfer, and the disposition of equipment and materials is within established policy and guidelines. Conducts investigations on lost property. (10%)

Move materials and items from receiving or storage areas to shipping or to other designated areas. (10%)

Develops and Assists the safety program for the HHSC Consolidated Warehouse (10%)

Sweep, dust and mop. Organize warehouse and work area for orderliness at all times. Maintaining a safe and clean working environment keeping shelves, pallet area and work station neat, maintain clean shipping supply area and comply with warehouse procedures, rules and regulations (10%)

Read customer orders, work orders, shipping orders or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered or distributed and/or shipped. (10%)

Assists the receipt, verification, and the inventory control of all raw materials, printed material, and equipment received for the HHSC Agencies. Submitting supporting documentation for the receipt of materials to Asset Management. (5%)

May assist in planning activities related to receiving and/or verifying the work of others as directed. (5%)

Assist in developing/establishing an efficient inventory system/guideline for tracking/issuing received material and any other merchandise that may be received in the North Loop warehouse. (10%)

Assists the shipping of materials which includes the most efficient and cost-effective means of preparation, scheduling, and delivery of all materials and the creation of all supporting documentation. (5%)

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of inventory and stock control recordkeeping

Knowledge of automated inventory-control, purchasing, requisitioning, property and accounting systems

Knowledge of warehousing procedures, including safe use of motorized equipment for moving and securing materials.

Skill in use of standard agency computer hardware and software such as Microsoft Word and Outlook.

Skill in problem solving and attention to detail

Skill in operating motor vehicles including panel trucks and cargo vans.

Skill in managing multiple priorities.

Ability to obey State and Federal traffic laws and follow safe practices in loading and unloading cargo.

Ability to manage time, organize workloads, set priorities, and carry out assigned tasks in a timely manner.

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with customers, peers, and managers.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, dolly.

Ability to lift, push and carry 50 lbs. repetitively.

Ability to follow verbal and written directions for completing tasks, assembling basic items.

Ability to identify customer needs and devise solutions to problems.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:

Valid Texas driver's license Initial Selection Criteria:

High School diploma or GED is required. Preferred experience in shipping, receiving, sorting and distributing furniture, supplies or equipment.

Preferred experience in operating warehouse equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, dolly, etc. Preferred experience driving panel truck and/or cargo van. Additional Information:

Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for Warehouse and Facility Services to include conference room set-ups, sound level adjustments, recordings, quick copy, binding services, submitting building maintenance requests or calls to the Texas Facilities Commission, lessors or various state agency staff. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Provide administrative support to FWS staff and assist with other department needs as directed by the facility manager or his/her designee.
