POSITION TITLE: Inventory Accountant

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Inventory Accountant ensures that all product costs associated with the procurement or manufacture of GUESS inventory are correct and are accurately reflected in the Company's standard costs. The Accountant provides feedback to outside departments and facilitates the flow of costing information between Finance, Production and Merchandising while supporting the Cost Accounting Group in the timely reporting of financial results

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial transactions by preparing and analyzing month end journal entries to ensure the correct recording of sales, cost of sales and inventory. Prepare and analyze the monthly inventory and liabilities are accurately recorded. Prepare month end gross margin analysis for US, CA and e-Commerce.

Support Senior Accountants as required verifying exceptions, tracking costs, or analyzing events. Prepare schedules for management and the organization summarizing inventory, sales, or other key performance measures.

Perform account reconciliation to validate all licensee payments and receivers validating that there are no duplicate payments being released to the P & L. Work with MIS and Retail Buying to validate and or rectify and variances.

Provide support to Inventory Control by reviewing weekly store to store in-transit transactions. Reviewing exception notification for assigned process. Assist in reconciliation of Bi-Annual Physical inventories.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 0-2 Years

CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS: Positions allocable to this class are distinguished either by their responsibility for supervising and participating in the work of a crew of inventory control assistants or for serving as an assistant to a higher level inventory control position. Essential Job Functions * Supervises and participates in the full-time inventory of supplies and equipment, investigating discrepancies and monitoring inventory control procedures. * Serves as an assistant to a higher level inventory control position which has responsibility for physical inventory and field inspection of new construction and structural improvements of all County-owned facilities and for maintaining related accounting records. * Computes the value of inventory resulting from price changes or depreciation. * Serves as liaison to supervisory line personnel concerning inventory control procedures. * Analyzes construction and force-account contracts and blueprints to determine what is being acquired. * Makes field investigations to verify that items specified in contracts and blueprints have been constructed or installed. * Examines operating and maintenance expenditures to determine if they change the value of County-owned structures. * Adjusts the book value of structures to reflect changes or improvements. * Prepares cost distribution allocations at completion of construction. * Moves supplies and equipment, and may climb to high places and operate supply-handling equipment when counting or inspecting inventories. * Performs various other duties related to supply and inventory control such as checking and coding documents reflecting stock and equipment transactions, balancing inventory ledgers, preparing statistical reports covering inventory operations, and preparing standard supply and inventory control documents. Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: * OPTION I: One year's experience performing inventory control work and maintaining related records within a comprehensive framework of established procedures at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Inventory control Assistant I* * OPTION II: One year's experience performing difficult and complex accounting clerical work maintaining accounting records within an established framework of procedures at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Account Clerk II. PHYSICAL CLASS: 3 – Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION: * In the Los Angeles County services, an Inventory Control Assistant I is defined as performs inventory control work of a physically strenuous nature and maintains related records within an established procedural framework. In the Los Angeles County services, an Account Clerk II is defined as performs difficult and complex accounting clerical work in the maintenance of accounting records within an established framework of procedures, under general supervision.
