The typical availability for this open role is:

Tuesday 2-7 pm;

Thursday 2-7 pm;

Friday 9-11 am & 12-5 pm;

Saturday 12-5 pm

Salary Range: $22.53 - $30.49/hour

Hiring Range: $22.53 - $26.51/hour

The Broomfield Library and inventHQ are busy community destinations for people of all ages to enjoy and learn. As Broomfield Library's makerspace, inventHQ offers laser cutters, 3D printers, sewing and embroidery machines, hobby electronics, design software, sublimation printing, electronic cutters, and more. This position will spend the majority of their time working with the public at inventHQ during drop-in hours.

Scope of Work

  • Possesses basic knowledge concerning makerspace services which will include practical experience.

  • Is fully present. Gives customers their full attention and demonstrates a commitment to offer excellent customer service.Assists in use of available resources.

  • Demonstrates and assists patrons with use of computers, devices, and/or makerspace tools, machinery, and software.

  • Helps maintain the physical space making up inventHQ.

  • Presents the ability to "learn on the go", researching applicable "how-to" and other "self-help" for various tools used in a makerspace setting.

Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties

General Duties:

  • Works with other employees to create a welcoming and safe space for staff and everyone in the community.

  • Provides customer assistance in person, on the phone, and in digital and online communications.

  • Stays up-to-date with relevant technology, resources, programs, services, materials and the collection in order to facilitate access for the community.

  • Communicates with patrons to determine information needs and refers patrons to other staff as needed.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all patron data and information.

  • Assists as needed to maintain services, including the organization and appearance of the space to ensure ease of use and safety.

  • Participates in professional development opportunities to improve services and create welcoming opportunities for patrons.

General Duties:

inventHQ Team Duties:

  • Works in collaboration with other library and makerspace staff to provide access to makerspace tools, machinery, and software.

  • Prioritizes working directly with the public and assisting the community when the makerspace is open.

  • Must be comfortable facilitating hands-on learning. Maintains a welcoming and safe environment that supports patrons exploring new technologies and learning new skills.

  • Teaches groups of youth and adults how to use makerspace equipment, including but not limited to vector design software, laser cutters, electronic cutters, sewing and embroidery machines, small board electronics, and 3D printing and design.

  • Assists Creative Technologists to provide programs and services that are responsive to community needs, and connects patrons and staff with creative information, tools and resources.

  • May participate in makerspace outreach activities in the community.

Minimum Qualifications

Training

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience

  • One year experience in library and/or makerspace work or a closely related field requiring extensive public contact in person and on the phone.

Preference for experience working with people of all ages on how to use makerspace tools, machinery, and software.

OR

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bilingual skills in Spanish and English desirable. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: oral board, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry.
