Intramural Sports Coordinators plan and lead intramural sports leagues, train & evaluate sports officials, and lead Captains Meetings. Work spaces are the Beauchamp Recreation & Wellness Center and university sports facilities and playing fields. Hours are generally between 9:00AM and 11:00PM on weekdays with some meetings and supervision on Sundays. Shifts are generally 1-5 hours. Trainings will start April 2024.

Core Duties

• Promote sports leagues and tournaments using social media and print & digital materials

• Plan and lead intramural sports leagues & tournaments

• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate intramural sports officials

• Plan & lead officials training clinics and captains meetings

• Schedule leagues and reserve fields, courts and meeting rooms

• Supervise game sites, providing guidance to officials, scorekeepers and players

• Maintain office hours to complete administrative tasks, prepare and maintain equipment, and plan

• Submit game results via IMLeagues application

• Work with supervisor to learn and apply procedures of scheduling leagues, training sports officials, and coordinating leagues

• Other relevant duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• This is a highly active position that requires a mature and responsible individual with work experience.

• Strong interest in sports

• Abilities and knowledge of at least 2 of the major sports: soccer, basketball, football, volleyball, softball, team handball

• Positive and upbeat personality and be reliable

• Excellent communication skills

• At least two days per week available. Play is Mon-Thur afternoons & evenings, and some Sundays

• CPR/First Aid certification required within three weeks of hire date (offered by department)

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of experience with the University of Portland Intramural Sports program as an employee or participant; experience at another university or recreation district may be substituted for this experience

• Sports officiating experience

• Sports league scheduling experience

• Proficiency in Excel and Word programs

• Students with Federal Work Study in Financial Aid package

Physical Requirements

• Some lifting and moving of sports equipment is required, loud work environment during games, standing for long periods outside in cold & wet weather conditions, at times.
