JOB DESCRIPTION
INTERVENTIONIST/SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER
JOB TITLE: Interventionist/School Social Worker
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in Social Work from a social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Licensure by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners. LCSW or equivalent preferred
Minimum of five years' successful professional social work experience in child welfare and adolescents preferred.
Experience in an educational environment preferred.
Good interpersonal skills.
Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Chief Student Services Officer
JOB GOALS: To empower students, families, and school personnel to access available opportunities and resources that develop each student's potential.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Furnish leadership and assist with the formulation of a desirable educational program for the students of Alabaster City Schools.
Provide support, referral, and follow-up services for targeted students and students attending Alabaster City Schools.
Assist personnel in Student Services, Special Education, Federal Programs, and other programs to establish and implement a plan of action for at-risk students.
Assist schools, school nurses, and families in obtaining social and/or health services for children.
Work with the Department of Human Resources, Juvenile Court, and other agencies in the development and implementation of family intervention.
Conduct home visits as a liaison between school and home.
Assist school officials, teachers, Juvenile Court, and parents with developing a plan of action for students who are at-risk of dropping out of school and/or having attendance and behavior problems.
Serve as an advisor to administrators, counselors, and teachers concerning assigned program of intervention.
Be regular and punctual in attendance.
Conduct Parent Education/Parenting Support classes.
Provide crisis intervention and assessments.
Provide individual and group counseling.
Work with higher education to supervise social work interns.
Attend Juvenile Court proceedings of behalf on Alabaster City Schools including Early Warning, Truancy Court, and Agency Meetings.
Perform other duties that might be reasonably assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine-month (187-day) contract.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.
SALARY: Appropriate placement on current salary schedule.
