Occ Summary

Perform a variety of complex specialized tasks em inent in operatingradiographic equipment to perform vascular and neurora diologyangiographic and interventional procedures.

Work Perf ormed

Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the opera tion ofradiographic equipment to make special study radiographs of desig natedbody portions in accordance with radiation safety procedures.Positi on patients; immobilize as necessary.Assist radiologist during angiograp hic and interventional procedures.Operate fluoroscopic equipment. Positi on patients for rapid sequencefilming during contrast media administrati on.Set up sterile trays and other equipment practicing sterile technique .Assist radiologist during procedure to include handling of instruments, operating and monitoring equipment, calling out equipment readings;alert ing physician to changes in patient condition.Scrub to assist with passa ge of catheters/guidewires.Load power injectors with contrast media; pre pare for injection.Maintain studies within the Image archival system.Sch edule patient procedures from referring physician's offices.Charge patie nts for procedures and supplies inEHR.Assist in orientation of new tech nologists; provide education andtraining to student technologists.

Maint ain patient records andstatistical data. Coordinate scheduling and patie nt flow within theneuro/vascular radiographic suites; coordinate procedu re performanceacross different hospital divisions (anesthesia, pediatric s, radiology).Perform other related duties incidental to the work therei n (patienttransport, etc.)Maintain supply inventory; order supplies.Assi st with training of new physicians (attendings, interns, residents,and f ellows).Assist radiologists withdevelopment of new protocols and imagin gtechniques that are unique to facility. Participate in researchinitiati ves and development of research protocols. Demonstrateproficiency in the performance of neuro and vascular angiographic andinterventional proced ures.Orient new technologists to these procedures.Monitor charging of pr ocedures and supplies for division to ensurecorrectness.Monitor assigned inventory expiration dates.Maintain a par inventory of catheters, ballo ons, stents, guidewires, andmiscellaneous kits under discretion of manag er.Monitor inventory levels and par-levels.Perform other related duties incidental to the work therein.DUHS offers career growth and enrichmen t within Imaging services.There is a clinical ladder program with variou s steps and opportunitiesat each hospital within the health system.

Education

Graduate of a 24-month AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology OR Graduate of a bachelor's degree program in Radiology

Experience

Level I must obtain ARRT certification within 12 months of employment. in Level II Minimum of two years' experience as an Interventional technologist. Level III A minimum of four years' experience within specialty modality which they are seeking promotion

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

ARRT certification in radiography ARRT certification in vascular interventional technology must be obtained within 12 months of hire BLS certification

Navigation services include addressing barriers, providing emotional support, resource referral, and care coordination. The patient navigator acts as a liaison to a multidisciplinary and collaborative program that includes but is not limited to Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Neurosurgery (brain &amp; spine), The Duke Center for Brain and Spine Mets (DCBSM), The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center (PRTBTC), Cancer Care Plus (CCP) collaborative with Wake Med, and Palliative Care. The patient navigator will be an integral part of expansion of the DCBSM to Duke Raleigh Cancer Centers in Wake County. The navigator will coordinate care between the primary disease group and all appropriate physicians or services. She/he is responsible for ensuring adult patients with a CNS metastasis or primary brain tumor diagnosis receive quality and comprehensive services. The patient navigator assists in the collection of data, building and maintaining community relationships, and connecting patients/families to resources to deliver a seamless model of access and care benefiting patients, participating physicians, and family members. Work Performed * Accountable and responsible for access, facilitation, and coordination of a new patient consult * The patient navigator helps establish/oversee, promote, and coordinate patient registration, scheduling, coordination of care activities, and record collection for CNS cancer patients referred to the center. * Participate in weekly DCBSM Tumor Board conferences and any other activities of the DCBSM. * Demonstrates an ability to assess patient needs, make appropriate referrals face to face or via telephone to provide navigation and guidance to the CNS cancer patient from diagnosis to survivorship. Navigate all criteria-based referrals through the healthcare system and as warranted, accompany the patient to appointments and/or diagnostic test when possible. * Demonstrate effective communication skills to converse productively with patients, families, multidisciplinary providers, support staff, and referring providers within the institution and in the community * Facilitate appropriate decision-making with providers to ensure that each patient receives comprehensive care and follow-up in the Duke Cancer Institute (Wake County) or with their referring provider * Develop and maintain knowledge of oncology disease processes in order to serve as clinical point of contact for scheduling and access questions as well as patient education and patient assessment. * Utilize and identify available resources to assist patients with overcoming barriers to receiving appropriate access to care and clinical trials. * Enhance access to therapeutic clinical trials and optimize communication with patients, families and investigators regarding therapeutic clinical trials. Keep an updated comprehensive list and be familiar with all available clinical trials within the institution for the treatment of CNS metastases and primary brain tumors * Maintain a navigation services database that captures how patients were referred, the types of barriers patients faced, who provided the service and how was the multidisciplinary team informed of the patient's needs Minimum Qualifications Education * BSN required. * Specialty certification and/or MSN preferred. Oncology Certified Nurse preferred Experience Three years of experience in oncology nursing as well as patient education, patient navigation, planning, case management, or similar experience. Experience in nurse navigation preferred. Completion of national nurse navigation training preferred. Metric tracking skills. Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. Skills: Excellent written, oral and conversational communication skills to effectively work with diverse groups. Ability to analyze, evaluate multiple solutions and solve complex problems using well developed critical &amp; analytical thinking skills. Excellent time management skills needed to prioritize among many competing priorities. Attention to detail needed to operate accurately and effectively. Mastery of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel, multiple electronic databases and computer based information systems including eIRB, and EPIC. Ability to promote programs and services to community. Extensive understanding of patient care. Proficient in review of medical records and other patient care information. Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
