Job Summary

Under the direction of the Radiology Manager and IR Lead Technologist, the IR Tech II Per Diem operates radiographic equipment to obtain optimum imaging of designated portions of the body to aid in diagnosis of disease, measure progress of disease, and treat disease when applicable.

Job Responsibilities
1.Performs various special procedures that produce radiographic imaging of optimum diagnostic quality according to department policy and procedure on a daily basis.

  • Follows standards for Routine, IR, and Fluoroscopic exams and positioning prescribed in the procedure manual set forth by the imaging department.

  • Selects correct technical factors on an individual patient basis (proper techniques) to ensure an image of diagnostic quality.

  • Administers intravenous and gastro-intestinal injections of contrast media according to policy and procedures of the imaging department.
    2.Operates Routine, IR, and fluoroscopic equipment according to department policy and procedure.

  • Adheres to federal and state radiation safety guidelines and regulations regarding patient and operator protection, collimation, and shielding.

  • Ensures dosimetry badge is worn 100% of the time outside his/her thyroid shield while he/she is working in the imaging department.

  • Ensures radiation protection on all patients by using lead shields, lead aprons, and gonadal shields.
    3.Provides and supports interdepartmental teamwork set forth by the radiology administrator.

  • Coordinates the needs of other services in radiology to ensure patient examination time is kept to a minimum.

  • Ensures all scheduling with the nursing units in regard to examination time, required lab tests, premedication, and IV start.

  • Assist in the orientation of newly hired technologists in IR and uses appropriate documentation for this training 100% of the time.
    4.Maintains workstation area and equipment.

  • Ensures that all emergency equipment and specialized equipment is checked daily and record books maintained as necessary.

  • Ensures that the room is checked on initial use for safety.

  • Ensures the equipment is functioning before start of procedure.

  • Ensures that supplies are available and ready for use before shift begins

  • In conjunction with SPD, will take inventory weekly and make appropriate arrangements to replenish supplies 100% of the time.

  • Ensures that after the end of shift, work area will be returned to readiness and an acceptable level of cleanliness.

  • Ensures all radiographic equipment is turned off at end of shift and plugged in if applicable.
    5.Responsible for maintaining the continuing education required for this position

  • Complete mandatory education on-line tutorials 100% of the time.

  • Obtains 12 CE credits/year.

  • Participates and contributes to team projects.

  • Attend IR case conference and educational M&M sessions when applicable.

  • Attends CCD classes if necessary.

CPR - Certified Pulmonary Recuscitation

Required Education and Experience

  • A minimum of three years experience in the field of diagnostic radiology and one year experience in Interventional Radiology.

  • According to the CMS (Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services) a copy of diploma or transcript is required as proof of academic achievement for all non-laboratory personnel performing non-waived POC testing

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

  • VI certification preferred but not required.

  • Pediatric experience preferred.

The Cat Scan Technologist performs a variety of CT procedures. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services following established protocols and maintains a demeanor complimentary to MLH standards and medical ethics. Provides appropriate care for all patient populations. Demonstrates ability to work independently in provision of services. Essential Accountabilities: * Performs Cat Scan procedures. * Verifies patient's clinical history procedure, ensuring information is accurate, documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner. * Prepares patient for procedures; providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety. * Actively participates in the identification of patients, confirming patient demographics, correct procedure, correct side and site, using active communication. * Selects and operates CT equipment, imaging and associated accessories to successfully complete an examination. * Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting the patient's ability and comfort. * Immobilizes patient as required for appropriate examination. * Determines applicable CT protocol. * Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others and in accordance with MLH Imaging Gently program. * Determines pregnancy status as appropriate and follow procedures to limit gonadal exposure. * Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification are recorded and resolves PACS QA issues. * May inject contrast material if credentialed by Medical Director. * Applies principles of confidentiality (HIPAA) to all hospital and patient matters. * Documentation and reporting of adverse events, utilizing Patient Safety Network (PSN). * Performs additional duties as assigned. * Travel to and/or staff other Main Line Health (MLH) Radiology locations may be necessary on occasion to promote effective, timely and consistent delivery of Radiology services. Qualifications: 1. Graduate of JRCERT approved program in Radiologic Technology 2. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ARRT (R) required 3. Advanced Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist ARRT (CT) preferred Licensures & Certifications: IV certification preferred or certification must be achieved by end of training/onboarding process for continued employment. BLS Certification by American Heart Association Experience: Graduate of JRC approved program in Radiologic Technology Recent-related CT experience preferred.
