JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of this role is to provide for the care needs of patients undergoing a diagnostic radiologic procedure in the Interventional Laboratory. This role has limited responsibilities during complex interventional procedures. This care member assists the procedural cardiologist with all aspects of radiology procedures, as well as assisting in an aseptic manner with the intervention itself. The Interventional Technologist works collaboratively with the CCL registered nurse, each within his/her own level of licensure.

This is a journey-level position for a Radiological Technologist with at least two years of acute care hospital facility employment experience. An Interventional/Cardiac/EP Radiologic Technologist is a radiologic technologist who possesses the CRT, ARRT and Fluoroscopy certifications and must obtain 1 additional ARRT certification related to the modality or have successfully completed the cross-training program at MarinHealth Medical Center.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

Formal Training in an accredited Radiological program with an Associate's degree in Radiology

High school diploma or an equivalent G.E.D. program therein.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of two years full time experience as a paid Radiological Technologist in an acute care hospital facility

Some experience performing complex interventional procedures is preferred.

PREREQUISITE SKILLS

  • Technical ability to perform all diagnostic radiography examinations as outlined in the MarinHealth Diagnostic Imaging Services department policy and procedure manual

  • Extensive knowledge of radiographic coronary anatomy and physiology.

  • Ability to adjust to rapidly changing technology.

  • Must possess above-average tact and ability to effectively work with patients, physicians, other hospital personnel and the public.

  • Must be able to communicate and work effectively with patients who may be under emotional stress.

  • Must be willing to participate in ongoing education programs through appropriate organizations, such as ARRT or other local, state or national organizations advocating continuing education.

  • Can work with minimal supervision 1. Required possession of valid California Certified Radiological Technologist Certificate (CRT)

  • Required possession of Fluoroscopy certification

  • Required possession of ARRT certification related to the modality

  • Possession of membership in good standing with American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT)

  • Required Possession of valid Basic Life Saving certificate

LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Required possession of valid California Certified Radiological Technologist Certificate (CRT)

  • Required possession of Fluoroscopy certification

  • Required possession of ARRT certification related to the modality

  • Possession of membership in good standing with American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT)

  • Required Possession of valid Basic Life Saving certificate

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works independently with minimal direct supervision. Works very closely with the procedural cardiologist. Works with highly confidential patient information.

ESSENTIAL

  • Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique; sets up sterile field, assembles necessary supplies and equipment for each case, assists the physician during procedures; adding and deleting supplies on sterile field.

  • Assists the procedural Radiologist with the performance of diagnostic procedures as outlined in the Department Procedure Manual.

  • Has limited abilities to assist with the more complex interventional procedures which include Chemo Embolizations, Vascular Embolizations, Kyphoplasties, Cryoablations; balloon angioplasty, Stent Placements, Y90 Treatments, CT Drainages, Chest tube placements, among a hundred other less complex procedures. Troubleshoots equipment and offers technical assistance (ie. Ultrasound, Fluoro, and CT) to determine and communicate non-function of equipment, and assist with service personnel.

  • Keeps abreast of current department procedures.

  • Uses supplies and other resources in a cost conscious manner.

  • Recognizes need for and utilizes special techniques when working with patients in restraints, etc.

  • Demonstrates awareness of learning needs and maintains competencies. Attends ongoing educational training in order to maintain and expand knowledge and skills.

  • Performs special projects or duties pertinent to the Interventional Department at the request of the Manager or Director of Radiology /Interventional Lab.

SECONDARY

Performs special projects or duties pertinent to Interventional Department at the request of the Manager or Director of Interventional Lab.

Furthermore, all compensation decisions are ultimately determined in accordance with our compensation philosophy. Compensation for positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by the agreements in the aforementioned document.
