Position Title: Intervention Specialist

Reports to: Intervention/Student Assistance Program Services Manager

Supervises: None

Primary Function:

The Intervention Specialist will be responsible for providing services which assist in the identification, referral, and support of at-risk students in assigned buildings. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: being active ad hoc members of the Student Assistance Program (SAP)Team; working collaboratively with administration and guidance personnel; working collaboratively in a non-duplicative fashion with county SAP liaison; linking students and families to school-based and community resources; providing group and individual support services to identified youth; providing consultation and intensive case management for SAP referrals; and participating in public relations, community outreach, and marketing efforts.

Required Qualifications:

Education: A Masters Degree or equivalent experience in counseling, psychology, or human services.

Experience: Five years experience in the human services field including provision of services to school age youth; familiarity with the range of services available to youth and families and how to access them. Individual and group counseling, familiarity with the SAP process and experience with schools preferred.

Essential duties:

• Provide direct ATOD services in the form of small group discussions, in-class demonstrations, at-risk services, or other activities assigned by the Intervention/SAP Services Manager.

• Assist teachers, administrators and other school personnel within assigned districts in the implementation, ongoing support, and follow-up of the program. This may include meetings with educators during or after the school day, consultation on support group curriculum, and planning other in-school intervention activities.

• Assist school personnel in emergency situations upon request, following procedures established in the school's policy, or act to protect the health, safety, and welfare of students until school personnel are available.

• Work collaboratively with school personnel in handling situations where a child is in danger of harming themselves or others, or whose general health, safety, or welfare are in jeopardy, following established school procedures.

• Assist in the design of activities or lessons for small group, in-class, or other activities essential for the program.

• Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and provide professional/personal input to program strategies as appropriate.

• Participate in the design and presentation of workshop activities/trainings to school or other professionals.

• Assist in the development, timely collection, and tabulation of program and training evaluation/survey materials, permission forms, and other program documents.

• Develop and provide prevention information and materials to parent groups/associations and community coalitions/organizations and special populations. Fulfilling this responsibility may require hours beyond the normal work day.

• Maintain accurate program reporting and billing data, including data entry as required regarding populations served, hours of service, environment, etc. This will involve internal reports, as well as reports to school districts, and other populations served.

• Maintain accurate departmental records which indicate specific services provided for school populations.

• Keep current with changes in the field and maintain skills and knowledge relevant to the drug and alcohol prevention field - through reading, attending workshops, and interaction with other professionals.

• Work to obtain and/or maintain professional credentials through trainings and workshops and staff development events.

• Responsible for use, maintenance, sign out and check in return of AV materials, as well as other program materials (including games, books, props, equipment, manuals, etc.).

• Attendance at meetings and trainings, internal and external, assigned by the Executive Director or Department Manager.

Special challenges and environment:

• Performs in both a standard office environment and in schools throughout Westmoreland and surrounding counties on a daily basis.

• Travel is required for program services. A valid PA driver's license is required.

• Physically capable of lifting and transporting program materials weighing 20-40 pounds.

• Current Act 34 and 151 Clearances.

• Ability to be flexible with work hours.
