M-F; 8:00 AM-4:30 PM (8 hr/day with/30 minute duty free lunch)

NATURE OF POSITION:
The Intervention Specialist identifies and assists students, families and school systems to overcome barriers that interfere with learning through the use of assessment, intervention, instruction, consultation, coordination of school and community resources and program development. The Intervention Specialist utilizes knowledge of human behavior, plus social, cultural, and community influences, to help create a positive learning climate.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a Bachelors in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services or related field; Master's degree preferred
- Minimum three (3) years of experience working with and supporting at-risk students and families
- Excellent communication (oral, written and listening) and interpersonal relations skills with children, adults and community agencies
- Illustrated understanding of family, school and community systems and collaboration between entities toward improving mental health and academic outcomes of youth and families
- Ability to work in a confidential environment
- Successful experience working with culturally diverse families and communities
- Ability to identify and assess the origin of problem behaviors and work with school staff, parents and students to diminish negative behaviors
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of students who have difficulties and identifying the root causes of behaviors that interrupt student learning
- Good problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
- Successful collaboration with District staff, Administration and students toward improving behavior
- Proficient computer skills
- Ability to analyze, develop, implement and track intervention plans, strategies and data
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Consult with teachers about students of concern
- Serve as Child Study Team (CST) Coordinator
- Determine what interventions can be tried before students go up for Child Study
- Help teachers understand where students are coming from as well as helping students realize where teachers are coming from
- Lead MTSS building initiatives and represent building on district-wide MTSS committee
- Create FBA & BIPS for general education students
- Be familiar and aware of all 504 Plans for those students served
- Help create a welcome environment for all students
- Be an active participant in the Marshall School District community and events
- Community outreach coordination and organization
- Assist administrators with issues relative to IDEA, 504, MTSS, and Restorative Justice
- Consult with parents/guardians regarding ways they can help their child be successful at school
- Help students and/or parents cope with the impact of conditions such as unemployment, illness, divorce, pregnancy, death, relocation, drug addiction, etc.
- Locate resources for meeting student needs; provide information and assist parents, students and others to assist in availing themselves of the resources
- Keep current on services provided by community resources
- Serve as liaison between school, families and community agencies
- Serve on relevant school and district committees
- Promote mutual respect, understanding and support between school and home
- Perform follow ups on behavioral referrals
- Provide input to assure that student's educational, social, emotional and material needs are met in accordance with established laws, rules, and regulations
- Maintain accurate, complete, and punctual records as required by law, district policy, and administrative directions
- Prepare timely and accurate reports and data
- Use established reporting channels and procedures
- Promotes public awareness regarding school and intervention services
- Perform other duties assigned by the Principal, MTSS & Intervention Coordinator or Superintendent
