Knowesis is seeking an Interpretive Planner to support the Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) and collaborate with ANC Stakeholders to articulate ANC's interpretive mission statement and define program goals and objectives.

Position is contingent upon contract award

This work will include, but not be limited to:

  • Develop a Comprehensive Interpretive Plan (CIP).

  • Communicate ANC's overall vision and serve as the basis for decision-making related to ANC's interpretive program.

  • Ensure the CIP includes a Long Range (10 years) Interpretive Plan (LRIP), Visitor Survey questionnaire and data collection plan (if exercised), and Annual Implementation Plans (AIPs).

Experience and Skills

  • Master's degree in History, Museum Studies, Education (or related field).

  • Interpretive Planning certification (from any of the industry recognized certification programs).

  • 4+ years of experience in developing and creating Comprehensive Interpretive Plans.

  • Familiarity with the Military community, travel and tourism, Military protocol, ceremonies, and special events, and historical sites.

  • Customer service orientations with strong interpersonal, team-building, organizational, problem-solving, strategic, and communication skills (oral and written).

  • Possess computer skills including: initialization, operation of Microsoft Office, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics programs.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment both independently and as a team.

  • Government/Military: 3 years (Preferred)

  • Interpretive Planning: 4 years (Required)

Work Location: Client site in Arlington, VA

Government Security Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher

Plan and design process for institutions, such as heritage sites, parks and other cultural facilities where educational interpretation is used to communicate messages, stories, information and experiences. Establish specific goals for an institution's visitor population and build a structured vision to achieve goals by communicating to an audience through appropriate and meaningful experiences. Organize and analyze content into relevant and engaging messages and create exciting ways for visitors to experience content. Support decision-making process that blends management needs and resource considerations with visitor needs and wants, including determining the most effective way to communicate a message to a targeted audience. Present content in a meaningful way to enhance visitor experience. Work under limited supervision, support both quantitative and qualitative analysis and recommendations to improve organizational performance through changes to strategy, organization structure, process, culture, IT, and management practices, and consult on identifying and capitalizing on opportunities to improve client performance, including mission achievement, operations and process efficiency.
