Position Summary

Search is seeking an intern to provide support to the HQ Human Resources Department. SFCG is seeking interns on a rolling basis (with immediate openings) to learn about Human Resources in a practical environment as a supplement to their studies. Interns will be involved in supporting an active, internationally-focused, non-profit organization in many different facets of HR. Interns will be able to gain wide exposure to employee relations, data management and analysis, organizational policy strategy, benefits administration, audits, and other projects as they occur day to day in the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Gathering and filing personnel information

  • Collecting and analyzing HR Data

  • Assistance with project management

  • Updating the HR Policy Site

  • Developing and/or editing documents, updating various special human resources documents (presentations, spreadsheets and graphs, employee documents, draft messages, etc.)

  • Editing documents and/or formatting HR policies and procedures

  • Developing and/or editing HR forms

  • Miscellaneous clerical work (mailing, printing, database entry, etc.)

  • Back up in HR tasks of the department.

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.

  • A junior, senior, or graduate student, majoring in human resources, business, or a related field


  • Strong, hard-working work ethic

  • Highly confidential manner

  • Positive customer service attitude

  • Excellent organizational skills with a proactive style and the ability to meet deadlines, both as instructed and self-imposed

  • Self-starting, enthusiastic and flexible approach to the organization

  • Ability to work well individually as well as a member of a team

  • Ability to learn and implement tasks quickly

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Excellent and professional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Computer proficiency and experience with Internet research

  • Highly developed research

  • Desire to work in a non-profit setting

  • French language skills a plus

Salary: This is an unpaid internship

SOME, Inc. is currently seeking Spring & Summer 2020 Semester Interns for our Human Resources department. Are you interested in on-the-job training in your field of study? If you are majoring in Business, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Psychology, Human Relations or other related majors, this is for you! Compensation: Interns will receive a $275 monthly stipend. Schedule: Must be able to work a minimum of 24 hours/week; Hours flexible during business hours Qualifications: * Must be a college student with good academic standing and doing an internship for college credit. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA or better. * A college student with a major or minor in Business and/or Human Resources is preferred. * Must be able to commit to working 3 days a week during business hours (24 hours each week) * Participants in this internship program must require an internship for college credit or as a requirement for graduation. * Must be able to complete the entire semester. Internship Overview & Requirements: The focus of the intern in this role will be to assist the HR Team with day-to-day responsibilities that are crucial to our operations. The intern will be required to engage with employees at various levels of the organization and prove themselves to be a valuable resource to anyone that has HR related questions or issues. The primary emphasis of this internship will be on Recruiting/Talent Management. Below are the responsibilities: * Work closely with the Recruiter to learn about the recruiting process, assist with recruiting and screening applicants. * Conduct candidate telephone screenings. * Research and implement technology enhancements to aid the HR department including but not limited to data entry automation, employee self-service portal and emergency alert system. * Visit at least two external HR departments to learn about their recruiting practices and report findings. Assess to determine which practices might be conducive to SOMEs standard practice. * Research additional advertising resources for frequently open positions. In addition, register with local universities career sites to establish accounts to advertise on its career sites. * Attend career fairs and hiring events as needed with an emphasis on Veterans and Disabled. * Learn to use HRIS systems to include ADP, HRB and HRM application tracking system. Post positions on company website using the application tracking system and other job sites as deemed appropriate. * Shadow HR team to become familiar with their day-to-day responsibilities. * Check references for potential hires. * Assist with Staff Morale events, duties might include setting up, cleaning up after an event, and planning. * Other related duties such as copying, electronic scanning, faxing, and other assistance with projects as the need arises. * Receive exposure to writing and development of job description. * Learn about business aspects of running a company wellness program. * Other related HR and Benefits support functions and special projects. * Attend and actively participate in staff meetings. Learning Objectives: * The intern will be able to become familiar with the day-to-day operations of a full service HR department. * The intern will be able to read and interpret HR policies and become familiar with how to write a policy or procedure. * The intern will be able to identify appropriate websites and advertise positions based on the job description and needs of the department/program. * The intern will be able to devise and post vacancy announcements for various positions. * The intern will be able to learn and use two or more Human Resources Information Systems. * The intern will be to learn how to properly complete a reference check for a potential hire as well as place an order for an electronic reference check. * The intern will be able to plan and implement at least one staff morale event for the employee recognition program. * The intern will be able to use the internet and other means to conduct research on salaries, career sites, and other related areas. Use research to assist in improving processes and to complete projects.
