Summary

This internship will include a variety of tasks and could include any of the following: performing emissions calculations; evaluating facility emissions and air-quality data; reviewing regulations and facility information relevant to projects; assisting in the preparation of reports such as writing technical evaluations or preparing data summary tables and spreadsheets; and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Major in chemical, mechanical, or environmental engineering or related scientific discipline

  • Completion of six courses in engineering, environmental sciences, or related subjects

  • GPA of 3.2/4.0 or higher

  • On-going enrollment in one of the programs listed above

  • Availability to work 40 hours per week during the summer break

  • Familiarity with computers, including Microsoft Office programs

  • Outstanding spreadsheet skills and excellent chemistry aptitude

  • Ability to self-motivate

  • Conscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness and timeliness of results

  • Thorough, organized, detail-oriented approach, with ability to work within a team

  • Flexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedules as required to meet project deadlines and/or client needs

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship

  • Acceptable driving record

NOTE: Some of the project work may require work on locations with rough terrain typical of construction sites, and working on tall structures and industrial equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. In addition, some of the project work may require entering upon and working on sites containing hazardous substances. For work on these sites, an OSHA mandated physical exam will be required. Other assignments may require the use of respiratory equipment.

Your Opportunity You will perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, corrective action, mining, biology, and other environmental programs. You will also write reports, develop plans, and implement steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost effective manner Your Key Responsibilities * Manage tasks and projects according to approved scopes of work, and deliver quality reports on schedule and within budget * Contribute to and lead business development activities, including proposals, pre-qualifications, and relationship building with clients and prospective clients. Interact and interface with clients and environmental regulators * Directand prepare Initial Studies, Negative Declarations, Environmental ImpactReports, Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, andsupporting technical studies Oversee multiple projects simultaneouslywithin scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards onproject deliverables. Experience in land use planning is a plus. * Identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effectivetechnical proposals, and take active leadership role in developing newbusiness with new and existing clients. Develop and expand clientrelationships that generate repeat business. * Provide support for CEQA- and NEPA-relatedprojects and associated activities in support of STANTEC clients' capitalprojects (i.e., oil and gas, mining, power generation, electricaltransmission, renewable energy projects). * Contract document preparation, including detailed design drawings and specifications, and project permitting * Construction contract administration and site inspection services * Participate in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work * Assists in analyzing current and emerging technical issues, and implementing actions to proactively address market, business, regulatory, and/or economic issues. * Assignments/projects are advanced in nature and require the application of mature knowledge. * Responsible for planning and conducting assignments/ projects having broad scope for independent accomplishment and coordination of difficult tasks. * Recommendations are reviewed for soundness of judgment; accepted as accurate and feasible. * Provide supervision, training, technical direction and mentoring to more junior staff * Review work of junior staff. * Applies technical and business knowledge and methods to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues. * Executes specific technical tasks or requirements for medium to large projects. * Conduct peer reviews of routine and moderately complex work by colleagues or more junior practitioners. * Qualifies as a Quality Reviewer and undertakes Quality Reviews of moderate to large deliverables.
