Job Description:

The Office of Career Planning & Development at the State University of New York at Old Westbury seeks to hire an Internship Coordinator. The Internship Coordinator will facilitate the administration of internship opportunities with Career Planning & Development staff, faculty and administrators of academic departments/programs and administrative departments. This position is responsible for gathering, analyzing, recording and reporting on various opportunities and experiences. The Coordinator will engage employers, external organizations and internal partners to facilitate recruiting efforts and help cultivate new opportunities. The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented individual with excellent organizational and communication skills. The Coordinator engages with students and faculty to promote opportunities, identify candidates, and prepare students for internship opportunities and experiences. The incumbent will assist in managing the technological resources of the Career Planning & Development website and Handshake to promote and track these opportunities and efforts.

The Internship Coordinator reports to the Director of Career Planning and Development. This is a twelve (12) month, temporary full-time, grant-funded position, subject to annual renewal.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate and support Career Planning & Development (CPD) initiatives, and plan and manage the administration of internship opportunities and related programs, through meeting with academic departments and staff, such as internship coordinators and other administrative offices.

  • Collaborate with CPD staff, academic departments and other college-wide campus departments, and external parties for programming for recruitment opportunities.

  • Represent CPD and the University (OW) at events and liaise with SUNY internship groups and other professional development initiatives as needed.

  • Compile information for reporting to OW administration, SUNY system, and other entities.

  • Conduct regular outreach to academic departments and other offices on campus to monitor internship experiences, reporting, and serve as a point of contact to address questions and train users on technology.

  • Write and design relevant handouts, reports, and posters on opportunities/experiences/internships.

  • Update and maintain website to market and promote CPD initiatives.

  • Support recruiting efforts, including key corporate/external partnerships, and generate and maintain lists for engagement and tracking efforts. Identify and prepare candidates for specialized opportunities.

  • Advertise opportunities and CPD technology/services to students and faculty/administrators/staff which may include visiting classes and attending student events.

  • Support CPD programs and events, including recruiting events.

  • Work closely with the CPD staff to bridge internship opportunities/experiences and career objectives of students/graduates and coordinate delivery of services to students across multiple platforms/events.

  • Promote the University and CPD through participation in professional organizations and internal and external events, including networking events, orientation, admitted students and open house.

  • Contribute to the overall success of the students and alumni of the university by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Supervise student employees.

  • Evenings and weekends may be required in support of special projects and events.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • A minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience working in career services, career development, high school/program counselor, internships in higher education or a related field.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft.

  • Ability to utilize databases and computer resources to generate reports.

  • Budgeting skills including the ability to allocate, manage, and track funding for over 100 internship stipends and travel grants.

  • Cultural competence and ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Must possess strong written and oral presentation skills.

  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends.

  • Ability and willingness for occasional local or regional travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in social sciences, Higher Education, or related field.

  • Familiarity with internship concepts, including 1:1 mentorship and experiential education.

  • Knowledge of software systems used in higher education for career services such as Handshake, Navigate, and/or Banner.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with faculty across disciplines.

  • Experience working with college students in professional development, including reviewing resumes for job applications.

  • Experience working with employers to determine job and internship needs and identifying appropriate candidates for consideration.

  • Resiliency, the ability to improvise, and work through uncertainties.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 commensurate with experience
