Middle Georgia State University (MGA), a multi-campus, baccalaureate and graduate degree granting public institution, is the most affordable public state university in Georgia. MGA has five campuses-Macon, Cochran, Dublin, Eastman, and Warner Robins, all located in central Georgia-and global outreach through its fully-online campus. Job Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating career advisement and facilitating employer connections for students within the fields of information technology, computer science, math, and business while also providing employer relations communication and support to the Center for Career & Leadership Development. Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and marketing career development programs and advising services to provide assistance to students in all aspects of career planning in order to prepare them and connect them to internship and eventual job opportunities.

Responsibilities

Advising (25%)

Advises and instructs students in career development, including resume and cover letter writing; interview skills; and job/internship/graduate school search strategies; networking; professionalism

Prepares and presents career development presentations and content for classes, student organizations, and other student-oriented audiences (in-person and online formats)

Uses current occupational information to advise students on training/educational pathways; skills; experience; average salary; and other requirements for careers in business, technology, and math.

Stays up to date on occupational information and employment trends related to assigned career advising area

Collaborates with academic advisors and career development staff to refer students who are considering other majors and career areas

Promotes student usage of Handshake, MGA¿s online job board as week as other standard career search and online networking platforms

Maintains ongoing professional development via involvement with relevant professional associations for career development and assigned academic disciplines.

Programming (25%)

Organizes career fairs as well as other employer and alumni networking opportunities to help students gain employability skills

Coordinates workshops and other career programs for students

Coordinates and manages projects for departmental initiatives related to increasing student participation in internships (added)

Creates presentations and handouts to engage students in both in-person and online career education and professional development

Collaborates with CCLD team to provide comprehensive career development programming that prepares students for the transition from college to career; travels and provides support to students on additional campuses as needed

Creates surveys to assess programs; prepares, organizes and maintains reports and summaries

Liaison/Outreach (30%)

Conducts regular outreach efforts to include classroom presentations, orientations, student organizations, open houses, etc.

Develops strong relationships with discipline specific department heads, faculty, staff to share information that benefits career success of students; targets key faculty to help with student engagement in employer recruitment and networking opportunities.

Coordinates with faculty internship coordinators to connect students with internship opportunities

Promotes career development programs and services to students through various in-person and electronic communication methods (emails, social media, flyers, presentations, information tables, etc.).

Disseminates employment and internship opportunities to appropriate faculty, student organizations, and students, using resources such as Handshake, email, social media, etc.

Develops relationships with employers in order to promote campus recruitment opportunities and develop opportunities for students.

Conducts research to develop new employer contacts and follows up on inquiries from companies interested in hiring MGA students and graduates in business and computing and other industries as needed for the university; manage Excel and email distribution lists and Handshake database entries to continue engaging them in recruitment opportunities for students

Works closely with Cochran CCLD career staff to provide and promote services to math, computer science, IT, and business students living on the Cochran campus

Administration (20%)

Manage the student customer service experience in the Macon office, which includes creating a professional and student-friendly space, tracking student and employer engagement, managing inventory of supplies and technology, and updating student resources.

Assist with Career Development Internship Course management and student internship reporting

Supports business, IT, math, and computer science student completion of the First Destination Survey and Experiences

Plans and coordinates campus recruitment visits (e.g. interviews, information tables/sessions, etc.) for employers wanting to conduct interviews and/or promote opportunities for assigned disciplines

Maintains database of employers via Handshake and Excel to use for career fairs, special events, and employer outreach; provides additional support for other industry databases for the CCLD

Serves as a member of the CCLD¿s Employer Relations Team and provides additional support for maintaining, organizing, and labeling the employer database and posting jobs in Handshake to support all CCLD employer outreach

Supervise Career Center interns, peer advisors, and/or student assistants

Collaborate with staff to train student assistants

Work with assistant director to plan and implement the All Industry Career Fair and other fairs as needed

Manages career development supply and career resource inventory for the Macon campus

Performs related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in a course of study related to higher education and/or the occupational field related to the disciplines/majors being advised.

Required Experience

Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

Significant student-facing work experience in education serving students in a variety of disciplines or industry-based work experience related to the disciplines/majors being advised.
