The Department of Revenue, Administrative Services Division, is recruiting for a flexibly staffed Internet Specialist 1/2 located in Juneau!

The position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a range 16/19.

This Position Description is currently being reviewed by the Division of Personnel & Labor Relations, Classification Section. Depending on the outcome of the allocation, this recruitment pool may or may not be utilized to fill this vacancy.

The Department of Revenue's Administrative Services Division provides centralized support services for core division programs whose missions are to collect, distribute, and invest funds for public purposes. This position is responsible for managing, maintaining, and creating the DOR websites. The DOR web presence serves all Alaskans and the public around the world.

What you will be doing:

On the front-end side, you will be working with Department staff to write and edit web content following the State "look & feel" standards, creating graphic elements for web pages and applications, determining, recommending, and deploying methods for delivering services and/or information via the DOR websites, and communicating with staff on upcoming changes in features and technologies.

On backend side, you will be maintaining several webservers to ensure operability and troubleshoot for errors and discrepancies. You will also be responsible for creating, editing, maintaining, and publishing intranet sites for the Administrative Services Division.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for a candidate that has the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to be successful in the position:

  • Excellent Internet technologies and protocol skills. Experienced and proven ability to plan, organize, develop, and manage Internet projects, assignments, and deadlines concurrently with multiple stakeholders.

  • Working knowledge of Internet server operations, operating systems, and security principles and protocols.

  • Working knowledge of graphic and web design, navigational aids, site architecture, and web-based applications and accessibility technologies.

The following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities are preferred but not required:

  • Takes independent corrective action when errors or misinformation are identified. Normally, content will come from direction of department management or program staff. Incumbent decides the layout and language of web pages.

  • Advanced knowledge of Internet browsers, content management systems, HTML, and CSS. Some knowledge of programming and scripting languages.

Where you will be working:

You will be located on the 11th floor of the State Office Building in downtown Juneau. The State Office Building offers panoramic views of the Gastineau Channel, Mount Roberts and Mount Juneau, and is within short walking distance of local shops, restaurants, cafes, sea walks and trails.

Minimum Qualifications

Internet Specialist 1

Two years of experience maintaining web sites, which included working with graphics and text in a variety of file formats. Experience need not be in an employment relationship to be qualifying.

Substitution:

Postsecondary education from an accredited college in Internet Technology, Web Development, Web Design, computer science, information technology, information systems, or a closely related field will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equals one month).

Internet Specialist 2

Two years of experience maintaining interactive web sites, which required working in a scripting language to access databases or applications. Experience need not be in an employment relationship to be qualifying.

Substitutions:

An associate's degree from an accredited college in Internet Technology, Web Development, Web Design, or a closely related field will substitute for the required experience.

Postsecondary education from an accredited college in computer science, information technology, information systems, or a closely related field will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equals one month).

Flexible Staffing

This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidate's eligibility. If hired at the lower level, you will be promoted to the higher-level job class after completing the training plan and meeting the minimum qualifications.
