The Department of Tax Services is seeking applications for a International Tax Expert (Corporate Accountant) . This position will work one-on-one with International employees, students and vendors; and perform advanced accounting assignments to support specialized areas of tax at the institutional level.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Assist the Assistant Director of Tax Services in the development and applications of systems, policy, and procedure to ensure the University is in compliance with Federal, State, and Local tax regulations, specifically related to International taxation.
Assist with tax research in all areas but specifically including International taxation.
Serve as the lead in new employee payroll processing for all international employees for WVU, WVURC & WVUIC.
Serve as the lead University and related organization representative for all international employees, students and vendors with regard to proper Alien taxation (ATAX) of payments made to the international individual and/or vendor.
Ensure proper tax reporting by the institution; proper tax payments made by the Institution; proper issuance and filing of all required tax documents.
Ensure compliance by the Institution with all tax rules and regulations concerning taxation of international individuals and/or vendors by all taxing agencies.
Serve as lead in the monitoring of international employee status regarding continued authorization to work.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field is required for this position. Master's degree preferred.
Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in financial operations of a complex organization is required; an equivalent combination of a master's degree or licensure as a Certified Public Accountant may be substituted for part of the work experience requirement.
Knowledge of tax, payroll, accounting, and business principles and concepts along with the ability to reason and apply to differing situations.
Ability to understand and apply international taxation relative to payroll withholding rules, regulations, and procedures.
Ability to understand Visa rules and regulations.
Ability to define and differentiate between a Resident Alien and a Non-Resident Alien for income tax purposes.
Ability to understand the income tax treaty process including the types of treaties available, the rules surrounding treaties and the impact to the individual and University of such treaties.
