Summary

An International Logistics Specialist is responsible for processing documentation for international freight moved through 3rd party freight companies. Responding immediately and updating the freight documentation and providing adequate updates is essential to this position. Successful International Logistics Specialists possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Expertise in LTL, HazMat, Incoterms and standard international shipping and customs policy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinate with third party logistic providers when business needs and internal resources dictate.

• Lead in maintaining shipment schedules, coordinating with forwarders, customs brokers, warehouses, and internal teams.

• Develop new and improve current processes focused on improved efficiency.

• Effectively communicate with transportation vendors, customers, and internal staff to meet deadlines for all cross-border shipments.

• Using the preferred carrier mix and their agreed upon rates based on urgency, insurance, and cost to procure vessels and overseas freight forwarding operations.

• Reviews, manages, and approves all international documentation from the organization and warehousing locations, facilitating necessary changes and forwarding documents to the relevant parties.

• Prepare shipping and transport documents including but not limited to Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading, Shipper Letter of Instruction, Airway Bill etc.

• Obtain and negotiate the rates from freight forwarders and understand various terminology associated with transport modes and various surcharges. Plan shipments based on proper transport mode and routing selection.

• Support both operations, quality, and sales efforts within the transportation realm.

• Maintain the department to ensure ISO standards are met.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Ability to manage multiple priorities

• Strong understanding of International Shipping acronyms and compliance

• Self-motivated problem solver

• Experience with windows-based software

• Outstanding organizational and coordination abilities

• 1-2 years' experience in the international transportation industry

• Previous experience in international shipping, LTL, FTL and HazMat

Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

• Works between an office and plant environment with exposure to varying degrees of temperatures and noise.

Physical Requirements

• Sitting, standing, and walking

• Attendance - The ability to work as scheduled with punctual attendance, Monday-Friday plus additional hours/days necessary to meet business demands.

• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
