Internal Posting - LE Shooting Sports Assistant (Hunter Ed)

Job Responsibilities

This officer will assist the Outreach First Sergeant and shooting sports coordinators with the continuing development, implementation, recruitment and re-activation of the SCDNR Shooting Sports Programs.

Job Duties Include:

• Assisting the Scholastic Clay Target Sports program coordinator with all department clay target shooting programs.

• Assisting the National Archery in the Schools program coordinator with all archery related shooting programs.

• Visiting schools, clubs, JROTC, and other shooting groups to promote growth in agency programs.

• Re-activating schools and clubs that were once developed within the present program but are no longer participating.

• Conducting safety and/or ethics presentations as needed or upon request to promote shooting sports programs.

• Assisting with all shooting sports tournaments and competitions.

• Training and monitoring new instructors and coaches in shooting sports programs.

• Assisting in obtaining scholarships, donations and giveaways to the SCTS and NASP programs and events.

• Assisting with other education programs such as hunting clinics, TOMO hunts, and shooting related activities as requested.

• Attending required in-service and necessary trainings.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and four (4) years as a DNR Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer.

NASP Basic Archery Instructor Certification; NSCA Level 1 Certification;

Preferred Qualifications

Extensive knowledge of wildlife management and the rules and regulations regarding wildlife in the state of South Carolina. Experience in organizing and facilitating hunts. Ability to work with youth and adults, teachers and volunteer instructors throughout the state. Good communication and organizational skills. Ability to handle firearms and archery equipment in a safe and responsible manner. Ability to organize and instruct trainings and perform range set-up. Ability to use a variety of training materials such as audio visual and other instructional equipment to conduct presentations.
