Position Summary

The Internal Controls Associate will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of the Company's Sarbanes-Oxley ("SOX") controls including analyzing, documenting, monitoring, and confirming execution.

Essential Functions

Responsible for the following functions:

  • Maintain the inventory of SOX controls and assist control owners in their knowledge and understanding of the controls they own.

  • Support the design and documentation of SOX controls and identifying the appropriate framework, policy, and process documentation to support those controls.

  • Help management identify opportunities to strengthen controls and improve operational efficiency and productivity.

  • Act as the liaison between internal auditors and leadership.

  • Assist in the annual risk assessment process and help management in identifying and mitigating risks.

  • Identify areas of internal control deficiencies and escalate issues in a timely manner.

  • Develop SOX certification process across critical bank areas.

  • Work with outsourced internal audit firm to develop internal audit scope and audit plans.

  • Monitor and track audit results and ensure remediation of audit findings.

  • Maintain open communication with teams and leadership across the organization.

  • Project manages internal audits, including the audit preparation process and communication between auditors and control owners.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field required.

  • Comprehensive understanding of internal auditing, GAAP, PCAOB standards, SEC regulations, SOX Compliance, COSO Framework preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices and reporting of financial data.

  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Excel.

  • Ability to effectively present and communicate information and respond to inquiries.

  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

  • Ability to apply common sense logic and critical thinking to solve problems and make sound judgments and decisions.

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.

  • Ability to provide direct supervision to subordinate staff members.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time over 75% of work hours.

  • Ability to use hands to grasp, handle or feel.

  • Ability to use computer keyboard and system to enter data and process information.

  • Ability to talk, listen and see.

  • Ability to use telephone to communicate with internal and external individuals.

Working Conditions

  • Moderate sound as in business office with office machines, computers, and people traffic.
