OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center is Oklahoma's only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-Designated Cancer Center, and one of only 72 NCI-Designated Cancer Centers in the United States. We are seeking a dynamic Internal Communications Specialist to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring effective communication within the center and will work as a part of the Stephenson Cancer Center's Office of Cancer Research and Administration teams. This position will act as a liaison between the Stephenson Cancer Center and the central marketing and communications offices at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences and OU Health. This position will be located on the OUHSC campus with flexible hybrid option possible for experienced candidates.

The successful candidate will develop internal communications and collaborate with the central marketing and communications offices to promote press releases and other projects across various platforms, from conception to implementation.

Duties:

  • Design and Content Creation: Designs layouts and writes content for electronic, print, promotional, multi-media communications, and graphic arts projects.
  • Internal Communications: Create and distribute engaging newsletters and emails to keep faculty and staff informed about the latest developments, achievements, and events within the Stephenson Cancer Center. Develop content and maintain internal communications platforms, such as SharePoint and other relevant systems.
  • Presentations: Collaborate with Stephenson Cancer Center leadership to create compelling presentations that support various internal and external initiatives, incorporating graphic design principles.
  • External Advisory Board and NCI Site Visit Support: Assist in the preparation of materials (PowerPoint presentations, infographics, briefing books, etc) for External Advisory Board meetings and site visits from the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
  • Press Releases: Collaborate with the University of Oklahoma (OU) and OU Health marketing teams to draft and disseminate press releases, highlighting key research findings and center milestones.
  • Brand Consistency: Ensures brand consistency in email communications, social media communications, web content, videos, and other formats.
  • Analytics and Online Studies: Conduct online studies and implement initiatives to increase positive results.
  • Reports and Records: Prepares and maintains reports and records related to communication platforms and analytics.
  • Compliance: Ensure communication materials comply with required University standards, state and federal laws, including Section 508 accessibility.
  • Website Management: Manage, source, and write website content. Ensure new material is accurate, properly linked, and promoted.
  • Trend Research: Research trends in NCI-Designated Cancer Center communications and marketing and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Graphic Design, Communications or related field AND:

  • 24 months experience in multi-media, marketing, brand promotions and/or graphic design.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of Bachelor's degree with a total of 72 months related experience.

Skills:

  • Proven experience in internal communications, preferably within a healthcare or academic setting.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities. Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with marketing and public relations practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulations for electronic and information technology accessibility, including Section 508, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
  • Knowledge of complex ideas and ability simplify for a general audience.
