What You Will Do:

General Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of System Internal Communications, the Internal Communications Associate is responsible for writing, editing, and/or acquiring content for internal communications for UMMC and other sites as assigned. This position works in collaboration with the Internal Communications Senior Associate and is also responsible for updating content on the intranet content management systems (CMS) for the UMMC and UMMS intranets and adhering to production deadlines for these updates.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  • Provides writing, editing and research support for internal communications.

  • Responsible for intranet maintenance of the UMMC and UMMS Insider, including uploading edited or new material directly to the site. Editorial content responsibilities include but are not limited to reviewing site content for errors, broken links and outdated content and making the necessary changes; ensuring content meets all functional and graphic standards; and helping to maintain the internal site search engine.

  • Supports department leaders in other internal communications projects as needed.

  • Communicates project updates and plans with key stakeholders both internally and externally. Manages deadlines and multiple projects simultaneously, and completes work quickly and with high attention to detail.

  • Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communications internally and across the organization.

What You Need to Be Successful:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, Business or a related field is required.

  • Two (2) years of related or internship experience preferred.

Distill complex business or medical/scientific information or concepts into easy-to-understand key messages to be utilized in communication plans across multiple levels of internal audiences. Serves as key liaison and advisor between the Marketing and Communications Department and the business area team(s) assigned (project team, and VP lead) to develop, evaluate, implement and monitor comprehensive strategic communications plans. Develops and fosters key relationships with key stakeholders/related partners in business area and across system to assure coordination of messaging, tactics and distribution across various audiences and entities. Attends assigned business area meetings and committees to coordinate and prioritize multiple communication needs of business area and system priorities. Maintain in-depth knowledge of business area assigned to ensure optimal, integrated messaging. What You Need to Be Successful: Education and Experience Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, English, Marketing, or related field, is required. Eight (8) to twelve (12) years of hospital, corporate and/or agency communications experience is required. At least six (6) years internal or external client management or project management experience is required. Demonstrated experience developing communication programs and managing related projects for complex, matrixed organizational initiatives, is also required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and take accountability for deliverables and results. Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and projects concurrently; exceptional project management and organizational skills. PC skill in all Microsoft Office programs required. Highly effective verbal and written communication skills expected. Demonstrates proven ability to work alongside senior leaders regarding communications strategy and execution, and providing appropriate guidance.
