Internal Auditor

Location: 510 Bay Avenue, Clearwater, FL 33756

This is a part-time long term temporary position, approximately 20 hours per week.

The mission of the Division of Inspector General (Division) is to promote accountability and integrity in government and preserve the public trust by providing independent and objective audits, investigations, and consultations designed to add value and improve the County's operations.

Currently we are seeking an internal auditor, with information technology education or experience, to provide full performance professional work performing audits for the county.

What Would You Do?

  • Conducts internal audits, information systems audits, reviews, and consulting projects in accordance with professional standards;

  • Participates in developing programs for specific assignments;

  • Performs work specified in approved audit programs including research, analysis, and interviews to prepare evaluations and recommendations for improvements;

  • Evaluates internal controls in relation to cost benefits and effectiveness;

  • Prepares comprehensive audit reports and special studies for review by supervisor;

  • Assists in providing counsel and advice to county officials on matters related to audit reports, special studies, and other related recommendations;

  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

What Do You Need To Have?

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in information technology, computer science, business, finance, accounting, public administration (preferred major college education subject matter areas), or a related field that includes technical and professional education and training that evidences competency to assess, analyze, investigate, and/or evaluate information to ascertain and document compliance appropriate with applicable policies, procedures, and requirements; or

  • Four (4) years of direct experience as described above; or

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver's License upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.

  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations

  • Certified Fraud Specialist (CFS)
  • Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO)
  • Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)
  • Certified in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA)
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Certified Inspector General (CIG)
  • Certified Inspector General Auditor (CIGA)
  • Certified Inspector General Investigator (CIGI)
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Highly Desirable

  • Experience as an information technology auditor or in a similar role;

  • Experience with specific information technology audit tools and software;

  • Knowledge of information technology systems, security practices, and risk management;

  • Knowledge of systems of internal controls;

  • Knowledge of accounting and/or business principles, procedures, and practices;

  • Knowledge of the following standards, procedures, and practices for audits and investigations, including: The Florida Inspectors General Standards Manual by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Principles and Standards for Offices of Inspector General by the Association of Inspectors General, International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing by the Institute of Internal Auditors;

  • Ability to apply auditing and management principles to the variety of policies, practices, and systems found in a large and complex governmental organization;

  • Ability to apply computer applications and software;

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;

  • Ability to comprehend and interpret Florida Statutes, Attorney General Opinions, and county policies and procedures.
