U.S. Physical Therapy, Inc. ("USPh"), which was founded in 1990, is a publicly held company which operates 590+ outpatient physical and/or occupational therapy clinics across 42 states. The Company's clinics provide post-operative care for a variety of orthopedic-related disorders and sports-related injuries, treatment for neurologically-related injuries, rehabilitation of injured workers and preventative care.


The Internal Audit Manager position is responsible for ensuring the governance and compliance requirements of USPH, a publically traded entity are met. Duties include assessing the risk management process, guiding financial and IT audit staff, researching emerging issues, and conducting / managing audits. This candidate will report to the VP of Accounting and must be able to work independently, take initiative, make decisions, and have good organizational and communication skills.


  • Oversee and perform the planning, fieldwork and reporting for financial and information technology audits, including preparing audit planning memos, developing and executing test steps, reviewing and analyzing evidence, identifying and assessing risks and control issues, documenting work performed, composing summary memos and drafting audit findings. In addition, as need arises oversee and monitor remediation planning.

  • Oversee a team of 2, a Senior Financial Auditor and an IT Audit Specialist on audits, providing oversight, review of work papers and feedback necessary for successful project completion.

  • Provide value added advice and insight to management and department heads on risk, compliance and control improvement matters.

  • Work regularly and communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization to relay findings and recommendations, monitor and help drive remediation efforts to successful outcome, and advise on control requirements and improvements.

  • Work closely with the appropriate individuals to ensure certain business processes (cash management, accounts payable, fixed assets, etc.) of acquisitions are transitioned timely to the Company's central processing environment. For controls surrounding the revenue, cash and information technology processes which reside at the business unit level that are not transitioned to the Company's central processing environment, assist in creating policies and procedures as well as controls to ensure SOX compliance.

  • Create and maintain a good working relationship with the Company's external auditors. Discuss scope of audit for planning purposes. Ensure communication of audit issues in advance to avoid surprises and allow for effective and efficient execution of audits between both parties.

  • Perform audits of more advanced areas and willingness to perform audits in any area as needed to ensure timely completion of testing.

  • Willingness to work on special projects on an as needed basis.


  • BA/BS in Accounting.

  • CPA certification required.

  • Minimum of 10 years accounting/audit experience of which 5 must be in public accounting.

  • Proficiency in performing risk assessments and ability to gain an understanding of various business processes and systems through interview and documentation review, assess weather controls are adequately designed and operating effectively and identify and assess risks associated with business operations.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to effect change through collaboration, teamwork and professionalism.

  • Minimal travel.

SUMMARY The Internal Audit Manager conducts audits and provides guidance and direction for the completion of a comprehensive internal auditing activity in accordance with all applicable standards. The ideal candidate will have audit experience in the healthcare industry. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES Manages and Conducts Audits Determines the overall scope and procedures of the individual engagements, based on a documented risk assessment. Provides guidance and assistance as needed during the course of each engagement to ensure compliance with all applicable standards. Manages multiple priorities and resources. Meets project deadlines and budgets to ensure completion of the Audit Work Plan. Functions as a strategic liaison with management before, during, and after engagements. Represents Internal Audit in a professional manner. Audit Reporting and Communication with Management Convey information clearly and concisely through both formal and informal documents; adapt writing style to fit the audience. Prepares reports that are timely, supported by sufficient evidence in the work papers, and in compliance with applicable standards. Preferred: Master's level degree. EXPERIENCE Required: Six years professional auditing experience including three years direct internal auditing and three years in an audit supervisory capacity. Preferred: Audit experience in the healthcare industry. CERTIFICATIONS Required: One of the following: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) by the State of Texas. Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) By the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Must pass pre-employment tests (validated by Human Resources) as required and administered by department.
