In Internal Audit, we ensure that Goldman Sachs maintains effective controls by assessing the reliability of financial reports, monitoring the firm's compliance with laws and regulations, and advising management on developing smart control solutions. Our group has unique insight on the financial industry and its products and operations. Internal Audit (IA) supports the Board of Directors' Audit Committee and senior firm leadership in fulfilling their oversight roles by independently assessing the firm's internal control structure, raising awareness of control risk and monitoring the implementation of management's control measures.

IA is comprised of the following global functional audit teams covering the various business areas of the firm: Securities, Consumer and Investment Management, Corporate, Enterprise, GS Bank USA, and Technology.


Business Audit Associate General

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of business areas, its products, and supporting functions

  • Execute audit testing and supervise junior team members to ensure audit fieldwork is focused on the right areas and documentation meets high quality standards

  • Identify risks, assess mitigating controls, and perform an assessment of the design of the control environment

  • Prepare commercially effective audit conclusions and findings, and present to IA senior management and business stakeholders

  • Follow-up on open audit issues and their resolution
  • Participate in department-wide initiatives aimed at continually improving IA's processes and supporting infrastructure

Basic Qualifications

General Skills and Experience:

  • Team-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and accountability

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and relationship management skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Solid analytical skills
  • In-depth technical knowledge of relevant product areas

  • Highly motivated with the ability to multi-task and remain organized in a fast-paced environment

  • 5+ years of experience in a public accounting or internal audit role within the financial services industry or a related control function

  • Degree in a finance, accounting, or quantitative discipline, and ideally a graduate degree in a related subject

  • Relevant certification or industry accreditation (e.g., CPA, CFA, CIA, NASD Series) is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

Investment Management Team Specific Skills and Experience:

  • Solid knowledge of Private Wealth Advisory/Private Banking, or Asset Management, or Private Equity businesses and supporting activities

The IAG organization consists of various audit teams aligned with the business units and staff groups along with a professional practice and quality assurance team and a reporting and regulator relations team. All teams report into the General Auditor who reports directly to the American Express Company Audit and Risk Committee and administratively to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Responsibilities include: * Assist audit leaders, team leaders/directors, senior managers, and others in accomplishing audit objectives in a team environment. Act as a performance coach and mentor for staff and/or senior auditors; * Lead day-to-day audit planning and fieldwork activities, including identifying, understanding, documenting and evaluating key risks and controls; * Execute and oversee audit test work competently, in accordance with IAG's established policies and procedures and other professional and ethical standards. Maintain necessary independence and with low to moderate supervision; * Function as an IAG Regulatory Compliance subject matter expert, supporting and driving process enhancements to IAG methodology and international coverage goals; * Leverage data analytics to continuously expand and enhance audit risk and control coverage; * Demonstrate proficiency with automated audit documentation and other department and company tools; * Maintain internal audit competencies through ongoing professional development and training activities. * Five or more years experience in audit and/or compliance roles. Experience in banking or card industry desirable; * BA, BS, or equivalent degree in relevant field of study; * Relevant professional certifications (CIA, CRCM, CAMS, CISA) preferred; * Strong verbal communication skills, including an 'executive presence' and the ability to verbally risk and control concepts, and to communicate items of concern in a professional, confident manner; * Strong written communication skills (e.g. grammar, spelling, presentation, clarity, brevity, etc.) and the ability to deliver effective messaging that varies based on the intended audience; * Proficiency in risk management and control concepts and application; * Ability to work efficiently and effectively, to meet established budgets and timelines, and to appropriately prioritize competing priorities; * Agility to work effectively in various team constructs, reporting to multiple team or audit leaders on an audit-by-audit basis, to multi-task where necessary, and to provide timely status updates as needed; * Minimal, infrequent, travel may be required.
