The mission of the Internal Audit Division is to provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve operations. Within Internal Audit, the Models and Data Analytics team partners with other audit teams to assess the risks and operational effectiveness of the business units in Freddie Mac. The Audit Senior will focus on identifying key risks and performing data analysis using data mining and visualization techniques that allow for an in-depth review of business processes, performance, and risk metrics.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coaching and developing team members in both technical analytic skills and general audit execution

  • Supporting team in defining potential audit procedures

  • Performing data analysis using tools like SAS/SQL/ACL in support of internal audit procedures

  • Identifying aspects of a business process that need further investigation

  • Developing an understanding of trends in data and identifying anomalies

  • Assessing data quality and outliers in large populations

  • Validating data intensive reports and End-User Computing applications

  • Meeting with process owners for understanding key risks, controls, systems, and data sources

  • Expanding the work on audit engagements to encompass on-going data driven monitoring techniques

  • Developing data visualizations and presentations that enhance the understanding and value for the consumers

  • Documenting the results of analytic procedures in a narrative format that is easy to understand for non-technical consumers

  • Understanding of data governance concepts

  • Developing quantitative measures for the impact of identified business issues

  • Preparing well written and convincing issue documentation and audit reports

  • Typically has 2 to 4+ years of experience performing data analysis using data analytics tools like SAS, SQL, R, Python and/or ACL

  • BS or MS in Data Analytics (Data Science), Management Information Systems, Quantitative Finance, Statistics, Math, Economics or related study

  • Experience with the application of advanced statistical and mathematical concepts

  • At least 2 to 4 years of progressive experience in Internal Audit or a Big 4 Assurance/Consulting practice

  • SAS Programming Certification and/or SAS programming experience

  • Training or experience in basic data science techniques and their application

  • MS in Statistics or Mathematics

  • Exposure to Capital Market projects

  • Proficiency in statistical data analysis or modeling languages (R, Python, etc.)

  • Experience with advanced statistical modeling methodologies such as Generalized Linear Models, Nonlinear Mixed Models, Hierarchical models, etc.

  • Experience using data visualization tools (Excel, SAS Visual Analytics, Spotfire, Tableau, MicroStrategy, etc.)

  • Experience using business intelligence (BI) software and developing dashboard analytics

  • CIA, CPA, CISA certifications or interest in obtaining a certification in one of these disciplines

This role will also contribute to ad hoc data analysis to support business analytics in audits designed to determine whether risk management processes related to critical business processes and corporate quantitative models are adequate and functioning effectively. We are looking for a Data Scientist/Quantitative Analytics Professional who will focus on identifying key risks and performing data analysis using data mining and visualization techniques that allow for an in-depth review of business processes, performance, and risk metrics. Your Work Falls Into These Primary Categories: Audit * Conducting audit reviews of the organization's financial and operational processes * Meeting with process owners for understanding key risks, controls, systems, and data sources * Supporting team in defining potential audit procedures * Performing data analysis in support of internal audit procedures Data Mining * Extract, combine and validate structured and unstructured data from various sources, such as RDBMS (Oracle, DB2, Postgres), flat files, SAS data sets, XML, MS Office files and Hadoop * Apply quantitative methods to investigate and answer business questions related to risk management * Apply statistics and machine learning methods to uncover meaningful patterns and insights in data * Develop and maintain reproducible code for business analytics in R and Python * Communicate business analytics findings with interactive data visualizations Analytic Procedures and Documentation * Documenting the results of analytic procedures in a narrative format that is easy to understand for non-technical consumers * Preparing well written and convincing documentation and audit reports * Coaching team members in both technical analytic skills and general audit execution * Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics (Data Science), Computer Science, Finance, Accounting or related study; Advanced degree is preferred * Typically has 2 to 4+ years of experience performing data analysis using data analytics tools like SAS, SQL, R, Python and/or Matlab * Coursework or work experience applying predictive modeling techniques from finance, statistics, mathematics, data science, and computer programming to large data sets. Qualifying coursework may include--but is not limited to-statistics, mathematical programming, optimization, machine learning, computational methods, design and analysis of algorithms, Bayesian methods, derivatives, and Monte Carlo methods/modeling. * Experience using version control solutions for collaborative code development (e.g., github) * Experience telling stories with advanced interactive data visualizations (ggplot, matplotlib, seaborn, bokeh, plotly, d3.js, etc.) Top 3 Personal Competencies to Possess * Leadership - Primary focus of building something of significance.
