Position Overview

The Department of Corrections Office of Affirmative Action seeks an Executive I Affirmative Action Officer. The successful candidate will join our expanding team of civil rights professionals working to recruit a diverse workforce, protect employee rights, and support a safe and inclusive workplace. The Office of Affirmative Action manages disability, discrimination, sexual harassment matters. You will have an opportunity to apply your energy, curiosity, and analytic abilities to the complex tasks of investigations, fact-finding, and recommendations for corrective actions. Job Responsibilities

  • Conducts confidential investigations of discrimination and sexual harassment complaints.

  • Participates in outreach to address underutilized categories.

  • Participates in responding to employee and applicant requests for accommodations under the American with Disabilities Act.

  • Participates in training sessions and the development of training packages to be used for the training of all Department staff in the area of Affirmative Action.

  • Assists in the coordination of the Department's Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

  • Performs other duties as requires or assigned which are within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Special Skills

  • Requires one (1) year of professional working experience with EEOC or affirmative action claims, civil rights enforcement, or related fields, which provide an understanding of discrimination laws and policies.

  • Requires extensive knowledge of federal and State equal opportunity, affirmative actions, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Title IX laws, policies and regulations, and confidentiality.

  • Requires experience conducting investigations, preferably civil rights and/or Title IX investigations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with coursework in Human Resources, Law, Public Policy, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Human Rights or a related field.

  • Requires one (1) year of responsible administrative experience in a public organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers four (4) years of college, with coursework in Human Resources, Law, Public Policy, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Human Rights or a related field.

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience reviewing, conducting, or analyzing investigations.

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience conducting investigations related to EEOC or affirmative action claims, civil rights enforcement, or related fields.

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience conducting investigations related to claims of sexual harassment.

  • Prefers one (1) year of experience handling EEOC or affirmative action claims, civil rights enforcement, or related fields.

  • Prefers one (1) year of experience recruiting underutilized staff.

  • Prefers one (1) year of experience evaluating requests for reasonable accommodations.

  • Prefers strong analytical and writing skills with attention to details.

  • Prefers one (1) year of experience working with the Department of Human Rights or the Office of the Executive Inspector General.

  • Prefers one (1) year of experience working in federal, state or local government or in a public organization.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
