I: Job Summary

The postbac internship for recent college graduates is a great opportunity to engage in ground breaking research within the Vaccines Business Unit (Vax BU) at Emergent. You will work alongside seasoned scientists and program leads who strive to treatment viral and bacterial infections.

You will gain experience using multiple data searching and data analysis platforms as well as report writing, product development and program management. The intern will report for 8 hours per day for approximately 1 year. At completion, the intern provides a PowerPoint presentation and a written summary report.

II: Responsibilites

Conduct research for the Vax BU (no laboratory work required). Assist in program management activities including drafting, revising and organizing project reports. Follow good documentation practices and maintain a database of reports.

Build or populate a database of chemical structures and interact/work closely with the scientists and program leads. Maintain progress during the internship toward the specific goals outlined for the intern. Adhere to Company safety guidelines and complete all required training.

III: Education, Experience & Skills

Candidate must have obtained a bachelor's degree in life sciences less than one year prior to the date they begin the internship. Should have taken classes in Biology, Chemistry and/or Engineering to be able to understand the science and keywords and carry out compound calculations.

Laboratory experience is a plus but is not required. Must have strong communication, organization, and record keeping skills. Understanding of drug development procedures and infectious diseases is a plus. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Type/keyboard, visual acuity, good eye/hand coordination, stand, walk, sit, twist/turn, climb, reach outward, reach above shoulder, hand dexterity, bend, squat/kneel, sense of feel, sense of hearing, sense of smell, lift/carry 10 lbs., and pull 10 lbs. Use phone, fax, copier, and computer. Organize/coordinate, analyze/interpret, calibrate precise measurements, problem solve, make decisions, supervise, plan, communicate, and prepare written communications.

Roles and Responsibilities: * Identify business needs proactively and build research/analysis with foresight * Conduct objective quantitative analyses and provide evaluation, interpretation, and communication of results synthesizing key data and insights spanning a host of different sources and types of data * Lead the integration of insight from a variety of sources to inform material decisions through the delivery of robust opportunity focused recommendations. * Compile and analyze secondary marketing and/or sales data (including identification and appropriate use of data sources) * Create insightful reports and presentations that clearly and succinctly highlight the actionable insights combined with business implications/strategic & tactical options * Collaborate cross functionally with customer facing teams, internal insight colleagues, outsourced partners, and consultants as needed. * Share insights and assessments across the Customer Insight team to identify synergies and a more consistent approach to performance and opportunity assessment * Performance/KPI development, tracking, and best practice sharing across functions Role Requirements: * Bachelor's degree is preferred * Pharmaceutical industry experience or management consulting experience, ideally in oncology is preferred * Strong analytics capability / business acumen with ability to understand and interpret information from multiple sources. * Good presentation skills with the ability to explain concepts or plans in a simple concise manner. * Ability to perform market assessments (using multiple quantitative and qualitative sources) to translate data into actionable recommendations. * Demonstrated knowledge of secondary data sources (IMS, Symphony, FlatIron, Integrichain, etc.) * Comfort with ambiguity with the ability to challenge traditional thinking to solve problems. * Ability to lead without authority * Demonstrated ability to collaborate across groups of diverse backgrounds and skills * Ability to provide informational and analytical support for leadership in a timely and effective manner through seamless integration with other members of Customer Insight. * Strong Microsoft Office skills: Excel, PowerPoint, Access Desired Experience: * Advanced Quantitative Degree (Statistics, Engineering, or Economics) or Advanced Degree (i.e. MBA) * Experience with SAS/Base, SAS/Stat * Experience in statistical analysis - ANOVA-ANCOVA, Regression analysis, Optimization and Simulation * Experience in presenting to large teams with senior members * Project/program management expertise. * Pharmaceutical Sales Experience Astrazeneca Gaithersburg MD
