Position Overview / Key Accountabilities:

Intern will assist with responding to the state income tax notices received from various states. This will include research on individual notices, reaching out to local state representatives to get a better understanding of the assessment and going through historical tax returns to determine the validity of the additional tax assessed. In addition to confirming the calculation of the interest and penalties being applied, and sending letters to states to see if any can be abated.

Intern can expect to gain a thorough understanding of the state income tax notice process and how the corporate tax department researches various notices to determine their validity and confirms their accuracy based on individual state laws and regulations. In addition, intern will gain a working knowledge of state income tax returns by working on the various notices.

Qualifications, Education & Experience

Requirements:
  • Pursuit of degree in Accounting

  • Interest in US income tax

  • Technology savvy with proficiency in Excel

  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills

  • Positive attitude and desire to learn

Position Overview The Senior Tax Accountant will be responsible for assisting the Tax Manager with the global tax reporting function. The ideal candidate will have background in income tax and income tax accounting and a willingness to learn. Roles and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: Duties and Responsibilities On a quarterly basis will assist with the global tax provision in accordance with ASC 740: Review international provision for 40+ legal entities Calculate and rollforward domestic deferred balances Calculate permanent adjustments FIN 48 analysis Draft journal entries Assist with global tax rate calculation Document and ensure compliance with internal controls and SOX testing Review relevant disclosures in SEC filings On an ongoing basis the Tax Senior will communicate with international controllers to assist with any tax accounting questions, provide any assistance on the presentation/treatment of one time transactions within their tax provision. On an ongoing basis work with external providers to ensure international tax compliance deadlines are met, and gain an understanding of material foreign tax adjustments / review international tax returns Assist with rolling forward international tax basis balance sheets, and supporting various deferred balances on an ongoing basis. Assist with ad-hoc projects including mergers & acquisitions, research projects, legislation changes, process improvements, new process implementation, etc. Assist with future implementation of tax provision software Tax Specialties: Global Tax Provision 70% International Tax Compliance 20% Other 10% Total 100% Skills and Experience * Bachelor's degree in Accounting * CPA or in pursuit of CPA preferred * 3+ years of relevant experience * Technology savvy with proficiency in Excel, HFM, SAP, tax research tools and tax provision software a plus * Exceptional communication skills with the ability to interface with colleagues across numerous functions and geographic regions * Stable and growing company - Hubbell has a nearly 130 year history. * Understanding of income taxes and income tax accounting * Mentoring environment * Make an impact - Opportunity to provide ideas and input regarding ways to improve processes, and implement new technologies including Robotic Process Automation ("RPA") and tax provision software.
