Intern - Materials Characterization Facility

As one of the oldest forms of applied science and engineering, Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Metallurgical Engineering was founded in 1906 and named after its emphasis on the study of metals. Since then, our field has broadened to include all classes of materials from ceramics and polymers to semiconductors and biological materials. Whereas early eras of civilization were widely identified by human's ability to work with new material (Stone Age, Bronze Age), today our abilities and projects span a variety of materials and combine everything from physics and chemistry to civil and electrical engineering.

Carnegie Mellon University is hiring is searching for an intern to join the Materials Characterization Facility on CMU's campus. The intern will be assisting with the development of an inventory system for lab supplies. They will be responsible for developing standardized cards for each item that will include the following information: website and part numbers for ordering, amount to be ordered, when to restock. They will also be responsible for creating a corresponding database to track supplies.

Core responsibilities include:

• Developing an inventory system for lab supplies (safety glasses, sample stubs, etc.)

• Labeling cabinets and drawers

• Ensuring lab spaces are neat and orderly.

• Carrying out monthly safety checks of fire extinguishers and eye wash stations.

• Other duties as assigned.
