The RespiratoryCare Student possesses working knowledge of routine respiratory care andhas displayed age-specific competence in his/her educational program forpediatric (ages 13 months to 11 years), adolescent (ages 12 to 17), adult (ages18 to 65) and geriatric (ages 66 and over) patients. The incumbent conductshimself/herself in a professional manner and is courteous to patients,physicians, visitors, members of the department and all other healthcarepersonnel.

The incumbent supports and contributes to departmental productivityand organizational objectives by functioning as an integrated member of therespiratory care team and performs services consistent with his/her scope oflicensure. The incumbent supports and exhibits behaviors consistent with theorganization's mission and values in offering hope and healing to all.

Essential Functions
1.Administersnon-medicated aerosol and humidity therapy.
2.Administersoxygen therapy (including implementation of oxygen therapy protocol whereappropriate).
3.Administersaerosolized medication.
4.Administersincentive spirometry.
5.Cleansand reprocesses respiratory therapy equipment.
6.Administersbronchial hygiene and performs chest physiotherapy (including implementation ofbronchial hygiene protocol where appropriate).
7.Performscardiopulmonary resuscitation and manual ventilation during resuscitationattempts and aides in rapid response calls when appropriate.
8.Providespatient, family, staff and physician education.
9.Performs other duties, with the scope of licensure, asassigned.

Education /Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):

Theincumbent shall have completed the equivalent of one year of an accreditedrespiratory therapy educational program with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Further, theincumbent shall remain enrolled in said accredited respiratory therapy educationalprogram while maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0 throughout his/her employment asa Respiratory Care Student Practitioner.

Note: Educationalprograms that are eligible for accreditation but have not yet achievedaccreditation status meet the educational program standard.

Theincumbent shall hold a Limited Mandatory Certificate (license) issued by the

Kentucky Board of Respiratory Care; licensure must be maintained throughoutemployment as a Respiratory Care Student Practitioner.

Theincumbent shall hold a current certificate from the American Heart Associationin Basic Life Support or Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.

Experience(required and preferred):

No prior experience in respiratory care isrequired (other than that which has been achieved from clinical rotations inthe incumbent's educational program).

The incumbent supports and exhibits behaviors consistent with theorganization's mission and values in offering hope and healing to all Job Requirements / Qualifications Education /Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred): Ata minimum, the incumbent shall have received the equivalent of an Associate'sDegree in Cardiopulmonary Services or Respiratory Care from an accreditedrespiratory therapy educational program. Theincumbent shall be distinguished as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) bythe National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC); such distinction shall be keptcurrent (if applicable). Additionally, the incumbent shall hold an activelicense as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the Kentucky Board ofRespiratory Care. The incumbent shall hold acurrent certificate from the American Heart Association (AHA) in Basic LifeSupport or Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. It is desired that theincumbent hold a current certificate from the AHA in Advanced Cardiac LifeSupport. If the incumbent functions within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit,he/she shall hold a current certificate from the AHA/American Academy of Pediatricsas a Neonatal Resuscitation Program Provider. Experience(required and preferred): Noprior experience in respiratory care is required; at least one year ofexperience in respiratory critical care is preferred.
