Working closely with the Product Engineering team, the intern will assist with our development and validation of new products. The intern will work closely on multiple disciplines, including, but not limited to concept and detailed electro-mechanical component and assembly design, testing, mechanical simulations, and working within a cross functional development team.

The intern will receive training and experience with working in a small group of Engineers and Technicians on current and new projects. Additional responsibilities include: executing tasks under the general direction of the Engineering Manager on developing documentation to assist in product development, bill of material work, and final assembly drawings.

The successful incumbent will have an educational background in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a strong command of CAD (Solidworks preferred) and MS Office. Must be detail-oriented and thrive in a fast-paced environment.


  • At least junior level in a Bachelor's program majoring in Mechanical, Electrical or a related field

  • 3.0/4.0 GPA or better

  • Strong interest in the field of Product Engineering

  • Strong knowledge of CAD (preferably Solidworks)

  • Comfortable working in an environment with rapidly changing deadlines, workloads, and goals

Job Summary The Director of Product Engineering is responsible for the life cycle of product development for the residential and commercial product platforms for Weil-McLain. This role will direct the design and development of new products as well as the upgrading and maintenance of existing product lines to ensure strong performance of products in the market. This role will lead, directly or indirectly, an organization consisting of Engineers, Laboratory Technicians, and Drafting across multiple locations. Reporting to the V.P Engineering, this individual will also drive product design and development process improvements. This individual will ensure both the regular and timely release of innovative, high quality products that satisfy marketing requirements, and the effective integration and coordination with other departments (i.e., Marketing, Supply Chain Management, Operations, etc.). PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide leadership to the Product Engineering Department to ensure effective and efficient completion of: * New product development including compliance with NPI processes such as Stage Gate. * Implementation and management of the Customer Focused Technology Planning (CFTP) framework to deliver high impact product launches and maximize Engineering capacity. * Testing, upgrading and maintenance of existing product lines. * Development and maintenance of product design, product drawings, and Bills of Materials. * Ensuring ongoing standards compliance for product lines, including energy DOE/EPA requirements. * Providing technical support and feedback to all other departments. * Ensuring products are within budget and on schedule. * Ensuring product compliance and safety requirements are met. Core responsibilities: * Develop and lead an organization that is recognized for developing quality products that performance in the market. * Develop and improve Engineering processes to ensure predictability, consistency, timeliness, and reliability of throughput. * Recruit, build and motivate a high-performance team with strong leadership and technical skills that is capable of excelling within a dynamic, growing organization. * Facilitate collaboration and enhance communication between Engineering, Marketing and Operations. * Provide Leadership in company's growth activities as a partner in the business. * Ensure projects are completed within the parameters of expenditure allowances established by the company, budgetary determinations, policies and procedures on ethical, moral and human resources management. * Manage departmental expense and capital budgets. * Actively participate in key industry groups. * Provide timely, proactive communication about the status of product development activities and changes impacting projects. * Coordinate Product Planning with Marketing in support of a customer-driven product plan. Provide accurate technical information in assessing feature options, cost impact, and timeliness constraints. * Integrate new processes, tools, and methods to increase development productivity and timeliness. * Other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES * Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or Equivalent Experience MBA preferred. * Minimum of (10) years' experience to attain proficiency in this position. At least (8) of those fifteen years must be in leadership positions. * Demonstrated experience in leading a product development group responsible for similar products.
