  • Engineering:

  • Assist the Engineer with obtaining information and approvals for processing shop drawings and submittals.

  • Disseminate Construction information to appropriate parties.

  • Assist in the preparation of contract items list

  • Superintending:

  • Monitor field variations and keep the Project Superintendent informed of any changes.

  • Ensure that subcontractors understand and adhere to the job schedule.

  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with Turner's safety program, safety codes and regulations.

Perform other duties as necessary or assigned

  • Working toward a four year degree in Engineering or architecture or equivalent is preferred with at least two (2) years of education, and a basic knowledge of building construction experience. Capable of identifying problems and recommending corrective actions. Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programs. Strong ability to demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.

Physical Demands: Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Intern must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the intern can work in an office or on-site at the construction work site where the intern is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The purpose of this position is to introduce architectural & engineering students to careers in railway infrastructure engineering by providing an entry point into the Engineering Department's Project Delivery Team. The Project Delivery Team is comprised of a diverse group of engineers, architects, schedulers, and estimators responsible for managing the scope, schedule, and budget of capital construction projects. These constructions projects include: passenger stations, maintenance facilities, track, bridges, tunnels, electric traction, signals, and communications. The Project Delivery Team works closely with the infrastructure maintenance group and the Engineering & Design Group who are the technical subject matter experts. A key challenge of project delivery is the constructability of designs in an active railroad environment. Accepted candidates for the position will have the opportunity to apply their architecture & engineering skills in both the office and field, and to gain firsthand work experience in the various aspects of railway engineering. The position will support the Project Delivery team by performing tasks related to project management and construction management as directed by department professionals. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Review preliminary, intermediate, and final project documents and deliverables for completeness, accuracy, and consistency to obtain a better understanding as to how project documentation supports the projects objectives. * Develop and review project schedules and budgets to obtain a better understanding as to how these project elements support the project objectives. Understand the formatting and components of these elements. * Evaluate projects for constructability * Attend office meetings, field meetings, and conference calls, produce and/or review draft meeting summaries * Follow Engineering safety standards, work procedures, and operating practices. * Other specific work assignments may be determined based on the various department professionals' requirements. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution. * Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering * Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum. * Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher * Must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week between the days/hours of Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Prior work experience in design or construction. * Specific interest or desire to work in the railroad industry * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite * Some experience with CAD software (Microstation and/or AutoCAD * At least 2 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a junior status at minimum.
