Position: The West Coast Casualty actuarial consulting practice of Milliman, Inc. seeks to hire an Actuarial Intern to work out of its Irvine office. This may be a part-time or full-time position, and may progress into a permanent full-time position after the candidate graduates from school.


  • A college degree or pursuit of college degree in actuarial science, mathematics, data science, statistics, business, economics, or other quantitative major,
  • Previous actuarial, predictive modeling, or programming experience is a plus, but not required

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Service oriented,

  • Quick learner,

  • Team player,

  • Good with detail,

  • Excellent communication skills, and

  • Technically proficient in Excel; and R, SAS, or Python are also desirable.

Job Description:
On a typical assignment, the intern would be responsible for:

  • Developing spreadsheets,

  • Checking data, exhibits, and reports,

  • Processing data as well as programming to organize data for predictive models,

  • Fitting models, and

  • Checking work for technical accuracy.

The nature of the projects will vary widely throughout the year. We do traditional actuarial work such as ratemaking, reserving, and predictive modeling, plus a variety of special projects.

Office: Milliman is a firm of consultants and actuaries serving the full spectrum of business, governmental and financial organizations. Milliman's Irvine office is located at 19200 Von Karman, a couple blocks away from the John Wayne Airport, and specializes in developing property and casualty insurance products and InsurTech solutions for emerging markets.

Compensation: Actuarial interns are offered a competitive hourly rate that may vary with the candidate's qualifications and experience. In addition, for our permanent employees, we offer a significant performance-based bonus plan, profit sharing, competitive benefits, and an actuarial student study program.
