Intern (m/f) HR Global Mobility

Deutsche Lufthansa AG is looking for a motivated, qualified and proaktive student (m/f) who commits himself/herself to support our local team.
The Global Mobility team in East Meadow, NY, is offering a six-month internship starting in August 2019. The Global Mobility team is responsible for managing international assignments for all Lufthansa group companies in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. The team gives guidance and provides support for the Expatriates before, during and after their assignment abroad.
The Global Mobility team is part of the HR Department, which is responsible for personnel matters pertaining to the Lufthansa Group's operations in the Americas, specifically policy setting and enforcement for the entire area, as well as personnel administration, payroll, benefit administration and related support functions for the Group's operations in North America.
As part of the Global Mobility team, your tasks may include the following:
Assist the Global Mobility team with the coordination and support of all Expat- and TCN related employment matters for the Lufthansa Group companies in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico
Assist in the coordination and process of standard visa applications for the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico
Provide support in the yearly Taxation Process for Expatriates
Support the team to ensure compliance and adherence to tax, visa and social security laws and -legislation in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico
Assist with all onboarding matters i.e. social security, driver's license, schools, banking and insurance
Special projects in connection with expatriation
Conduct research on specific HR topics
Prepare and compile presentations
Other tasks as assigned
Besides your tasks in Global Mobility, you will support the HR department with various projects that include Payroll and Benefits.
You will have completed two semesters at your university before the start of the internship
You are studying with a focus in Human Resources (e.g. Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Business Management and Psychology or International Management)

Prior experience in HR is desirable
You have very strong (business) English skills both, written and verbal
You have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to familiarize yourself with new topics quickly
You are a good communicator, creative and a team player
You are committed and able to work independently
You have good analytical skills and an affinity for figures
You have expert knowledge with MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
You must meet the start and end date requirements for the position as well as the six months' duration
If you have already completed a voluntary internship within the Lufthansa Group company in the past, this internship must be a mandatory one within a different Lufthansa Group company
You must have a work-permit for the United States or fulfill all criteria to get a J-1 visa for the United States
