Work alongside experienced engineers & technicians in a dynamic manufacturing environment on real-time projects by:

  • Undertaking any tasks as requested by members of staff and as approved by Mentor or Manager

  • Assist in design, data collection, analysis, and other administrative/engineering duties.

  • Incorporate academic knowledge into hands-on work.

  • Helping to ensure projects are completed on time.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Phase 1: Will learn about basic optics manufacturing via a guided walk-though of all departments.

  • Phase 2: Will learn basic manufacturing engineering tasks such as writing and maintaining manufacturing process plans (Routers), detailed work instructions, and Bills of Materials (BOM's), for use by operations personnel for the development and production of Coherent A&D products. Will learn to prepare and implement correct manufacturing process support documentation (RCN, ECO, NOR, II-VI OS drawings, SMP and other special procedures), as needed.

  • Phase 3: Will further learn engineering design and CAD/CAM skills through basic tool design and fabricate via orders to the machine shop or via 3D printing

  • Phase 4: Participate in engineering meetings and discussions to further enhance working with other engineers and personnel.

Education & Experience

Must be enrolled in college-level courses with a major in an engineering program (industrial, optical or mechanical engineering preferred).

Interest in optics, optical fabrication and manufacturing and/or materials strongly desired. Experience with working in a team environment on a specific project a plus.

Skills

1.Strong verbal and written technical communication skills.

2.Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet software, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project.

3.Capable of reading engineering drawings and will have to familiarize with ANSI/ASME Y14.5M.

4.CAD/CAM skill is desired. Solidworks/Surfcam is preferred.

5.Familiarity with 3D printers is a plus.

6.Skills with basic machine shop and inspection equipment a plus (drilling machine, grinder, caliper, micrometer).

7.Knowledge of process design, development, and technical planning is desired.

8.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills is desired.

9.Strong organizational skills and attention to details required.

Working Conditions

Job generally operates in a professional office environment. Routine use of computers, phones, copy machines, ECT. Work on the production floor can range in a noise level from moderate to loud.

Safety Requirements
