Interested in becoming an intern for Techstars Kansas City and the companies in which we invest? You will help build the next amazing batch of startups, as they grow from early stage to venture-backed companies.

From entrepreneurs, to investors, to mentors, the value of working with Techstars is in the network. You will have the opportunity to sit in on mentor meetings and get to know the best entrepreneurs and investors in the city. You will also have access to Techstars social events with the founders and local community.

This internship is a chance to get amazing experience, broaden your network and gain exposure to some of the most innovative, up-and-coming companies and teams in the country.

General Job Description

As a Techstars Kansas City Intern, you will be working with one of our ten portfolio companies in a very hands-on environment. You will serve as a key member of the team throughout the 13-week program.

Tasks will include assisting with the day-to-day support of founders in the Techstars program.

This can include marketing, business development work, product roadmap and research. Examples of responsibilities: Helping the companies with anything, identifying needs and preparing for upcoming events, organizing meetings and running logistics for special guest mentor visits, taking meeting notes, and setting up office space for events.

Ideal candidates will be either rising juniors or seniors at the undergraduate level who are enrolled in business, entrepreneurship or engineering programs. All interns will be paid, will be required to start on June 1st and live in Kansas City during the program.

This is an incredibly unique experience to learn how a company is built from experienced founders and play an instrumental role in supporting their quest to scale.

Qualifications

  • Strong interest in the discourse around technology, startups, entrepreneurship, venture capital

  • Proven attention to detail through prior work or life experience

  • Comfortable with a variety of responsibilities

  • Comfortable with a minimal amount of direction but high expectations

  • Fits the Techstars culture (people-oriented, adaptable, supportive, creative)

  • Authorized to work in USA

  • Currently live in Kansas City or would be willing to live here for the duration of the program.

  • Experience with marketing, business development, product roadmap or research preferred

Our inspectors work as part of a team that strives to provide the highest level of service, improvement and community health and safety. JOB REQUIREMENTS: * Performs daily field inspections of residential, commercial and public facility construction projects. * Interacts with the public and explains technical information to both technically and non-technically trained individuals. * Reviews residential and commercial plans and engineering calculations for building components to insure compliance with applicable codes. * Provides recommendations regarding interpretations of City, State, Federal, and Construction standards, as well as local ordinances. * Maintains accurate records to document inspections, test results, and additional details pertaining to inspections. * Maintains computer logs of inspection reports, entering inspection results into permitting software. * Perform other related duties as required. SKILLS: * Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology * 3+ yrs. experience with Interpretation of codes in the field providing code compliant solutions * Must possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills * Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment * Candidate must be able to handle multiple projects in a fast paced atmosphere * Candidate must stay familiar and up to date with different editions of the International Building Codes. * Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
